Official Game Thread: Hawks at Jazz

Good win.

In the 4th quarter, with a nice lead, these Hawks always stop being aggresive on offense.  They try to run the clock down as far as possible.  Our opponent is naturally super aggressive.  If only - - - If only the Hawks would continue to play as if they were behind, driving inside to score instead of killing the clock (Pervent offense?) perhaps our opponent wouldn't always make a large run.

Mile high, thin air, tired legs.  GO ATL HAWKS!!

Collins has been regressing as a player for years. In almost every category.

I disagree.

Collins has regressed in outside shooting this year.

Collins has been a victim of our offense.   We don't feed him.  We leave him on the arc when he hasn't been shooting from there well.   His defense has definitely not regressed.    Collins is what you make him.   Early in the game when we go in transition and we go to him, Collins can carry the load.  But then we go away from him and only go back to set three pointers.   That's not his game.

We saw the same thing with Hunter last night.   Hunter was hot and killing them from everywhere... especially in the third.  Then in the bottom of the third and the 4th, we only went to him once... for an outside set shot.

We have two problems at work...

1.   We don't know how to feed the hot hand.

2.   We don't know how to maximize a player's ability by putting them in the right position and running plays to them.

These two things are on Nate.

Trae’s activity on defense is really energizing the team. They are really playing like team. That ball is hopping on offense.

It's not just his scoring or his outside shooting. His rebounding has also dropped. But he has played better defense to help offset some of the reductions in other area's. He gets credit for that.

It's not all bad, buy the loss of the 3ball is big considering he isn't the most creative scorer ever as it is.

Defense is about personnel too...  He plays a lot with DJ.  DJ is a better rebounder than Bogi/Kev were.  Then Clint is feeling 100% this year and is a monster on the boards.   AND he spends a lot of time defending outside of the post.

I do want to see him raise his rebounds through scheme though.   Meaning, I hate to see other teams get the switch that they want..especially with OO.  OO gets abused when he's taken out of the paint on a switch with a fast guard/forward..
