Most Olympics Roster Spots Already Targeted For Team USA

Team USA has ramped up the selection process for this summer's Olympics in Paris. There are 11 players that the United States are counting on playing or are in strong consideration for a roster spot. The initial 11 are:

Bam Adebayo - Miami Heat
Devin Booker - Phoenix Suns
Stephen Curry - Golden State Warriors
Anthony Davis - Los Angeles Lakers
Kevin Durant - Phoenix Suns
Anthony Edwards - Minnesota Timberwolves
Joel Embiid - Philadelphia 76ers
Tyrese Haliburton - Indiana Pacers
Jrue Holiday - Boston Celtics
LeBron James - Los Angeles Lakers
Jayson Tatum - Boston Celtics

None of these players are considered absolute locks as of yet. But all 11 are under strong consideration and have mentioned interest in representing Team USA this summer, provided they are healthy enough to play.

Of that group, Booker, Curry, Durant, Embiid, Holiday, James and Tatum are considered to be the United States core group. Edwards and Haliburton are being considered after strong play at last summer's FIBA World Cup. Adebayo and Davis are garnering interest for additional frontcourt depth around Embiid.

Edwards is being 'considered'.  Good lord.  they run this program dumbly.

USA Basketball is finalizing a 2024 Paris Olympics men's basketball roster that includes several of the generation's iconic players -- including the Lakers' LeBron James, Warriors' Stephen Curry, Suns' Kevin Durant and 76ers' Joel Embiid, sources told ESPN on Monday.

Team USA managing director Grant Hill is keeping one roster slot open ahead of a July training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas, sources said.

USA Basketball is planning to formally announce this 11-man roster that also includes Lakers forward Anthony Davis, Suns guard Devin Booker, Minnesota guard Anthony Edwards, Boston forward Jayson Tatum, Boston guard Jrue Holiday, Miami center Bam Adebayo and Indiana guard Tyrese Haliburton, sources said.

Team USA coach Steve Kerr will be coaching Curry -- his four-time championship and two-time MVP guard -- in his first Olympics appearance.

Kerr will also be reunited with Durant, who is one of only two players ever to win three men's basketball Olympic gold medals -- along with Carmelo Anthony, according to ESPN Stats and Information research.

James is playing in his fourth Olympics, a career that includes a 2004 bronze and gold medals in 2008 and 2012.

Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton is the only player from the non-medalist 2023 FIBA World Cup team that was selected.

So we are just going to erase this from Anthony Edwards resume?

Only thing faker that Hill in that pic is the concept that JoeLLLL shld be playing for the US in the first place.  I know what the rule(sic) is, but it makes no sense.

Just because he was born in Cameroon and has spent the majority of his life there doesn't mean he isn't as American as a nice meal of a bowl of Mbonba preceding the Ndole with a side of Njamah Njamah.  Cue the Lee Greenwood.

(Seriously, people who immigrate to the US are real Americans.  We are the melting pot.  But for international sports, I think kg is right.  Embiid playing for the US because he came here as a teenager would be like Tony Parker playing for the US because he came here as a teenager.  It is silly and usually a way for the best teams to consolidate more talent.)

Everyone will ignore the message because of the messenger, but Kyme has a point when he calls out the selection process for USAB.

Basically said they used to have to actually try out.  Now you just have to be ordained.
