Popular Post RedDawg#8
Is this not just as embarrassing for us as it is for Toronto? They’re the girl who is holding out for someone better to ask her to prom. We’re the guy who already asked her and are waiting for her to weigh her options before she says yes. I just hope all our eggs aren’t in one basket. 4

Holding out knowing Toronto doesn't want to extend Pascal is good business, nothing like prom at all cause the prize is an all-nba player who probably isn't gonna leave vs a date who doesn't like you and will be gone in a few hours. The JC TPE isn't a waste either even if we don't get one of these targets, not hitting that 2nd apron and leaving ourselves options in the future is a W if you widen your perspective past what our starting lineup looks like at the start of the season. There are going to be options available at the trade deadline like there are every year Patience is a virtue in the FO, Toronto isn't going anywhere and if Indiana/Orlando wanna overpay for a year of P they can go ahead. It isn't likely though so it's good Landry is playing it smart and tight.

theheroatl
The summer league David Griffin interview on nba radio is pretty spot on talking about trades, leverage, the way teams act Edited July 11, 2023 by theheroatl

B- Hawks would still be a .500 club next season. C- Hawks would be better with the new players we have + Quin and all his new assistants.. There needs to be a ( D - Hawks are a top 4 seed in the East. ) If we add Siakam, that's what my choice would be. Just settling to be better, means that we could be 44 - 38 . . . which is not really any better than 41 - 41.
Premium Member Popular Post Sothron Posted July 11, 2023 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted July 11, 2023 There's a post buried in here where I said what my Twolf source told me about Toronto and why it is hard to trade with them. They represent the entire country of Canada. No other NBA team has that kind of burden. Their fans are RABID. When you talk about the best NBA fanbases Toronto is legit one of the best if not the best in the Association. As a result of these two factors their ownership and FO are scared to make trades especially BIG trades. Trading Siakam is their admission to the fans the championship days are gone and it is a soft rebuild around Barnes and OG. We as non Toronto fans can see this. Frankly everyone can see this BUT Raps fans. That is why you see so much venom and nonsensical trade offers presented by their fans. They know Pascal is gone. We all know this. But they don't want to admit it. Landry doing that interview was the second public admission by our FO to our fans to expect more trades. The first public admission was trading JC to give "financial flexibility" to improve the team. Another telling comment is DJM' s comments before and after he signed the extension. It is crystal clear he took a big discount to stay HERE so the team would have the cap space to go get a third guy. There is no way they come out of this offseason without making another trade to land a third star. I expect Capela and Hunter to be gone. I said before last season was gone that at least two of our front court starters would be gone if not all three. It looks like I will be right. Back to Toronto: I don't pay attention to Toronto media but it sounds like their FO is still in the "deny everything, ask for the moon" stage of prepping a fanbase. They need to start making more realistic statements like the Blazers have done with Dame. The media leaks have said Toronto doesn't want to give Pascal a max deal. That there is a 70/30 chance of a trade (someone posted that earlier in this thread). The team needs to start transitioning the fanbase to a soft rebuild sell and NOT "we will get the galaxy for an almost 30 year player that doesn't fit out plans". And for the record: I would much, much rather have KAT than Pascal Siakam. I think he will be another non shooter to go with DJM around Trae. Put OO in at center and guess what? Another non shooter. That's three guys. I'm not sold on that fit. 7

(At least that's how I will always remember it) We kept JC way too long, hoping he would improve and we could get better assets and had to trade him for peanuts. We're still coming out of this looking better than the Knicks who always get used for better trades. That's all that counts.
Moderators macdaddy Posted July 11, 2023 Moderators Report Share Posted July 11, 2023 I honestly just want Siakam for a year anyway. Obviously it can't cost us that much if we're going to do that but it'd make us good this year and then give us flexibility when he leaves.

I just hope all our eggs aren’t in one basket. That is simply not how to look at this. Toronto has an asset that is depreciating the closer it gets to training camp/season start. They don't want to keep him. If they did he would have already been extended and all of this would be for nothing. We are the most active team trying to get him. We have given them our offer. They are trying to jack up the price with these planned leaks about Indiana/Orlando wanting Siakam. Sure, Masai, sure. We hold all the cards. We have, despite what one person thinks, real talks about KAT. We lose NOTHING if we either run things back or simply trade Capela to recoup draft picks or young guys to replace what we lost in the DJM trade. We could easily start OO at center, Bruno backs him up and all the young guys get more of a run. More AJ, JJ and Bey. We aren't the guy from Friends who wanted to ask the one girl out for prom and got stood up. We have nothing invested in acquiring Siakam like how much the Raptors are invested in TRADING him. That is called hand. We have it. The Raps don't. It is why we got nothing for Collins because we had no hand. We have hand in this situation. 12
