Aldridge for Millsap rumors

Sap is our best player, will make the All-Star team again, and we should re-sign him and run with this next year:

I like LMA but we'd be worse defensively from this. Millsap can make up for some of Dwight's limited (in today's game) foot speed on defense.  Having Dwight and LMA would be great offensively, sure, but we'd be killed on defense. I'd rather keep Paul at this point.

Millsap is a player that can play well into his mid 30's effectively. I'd love to sign him to one more 4 year deal. Seriously, with all the cryotherapy he does, he's good to go for a while.

We just got to keep Dennis from trying to steal Paul's kid's toys.   We know she calls the shots.

I always looked at Al and Aldridge as natural contemporary peers like Tim and KG.  I hated Al last season and he's still superior in most areas besides pure scoring, 30-point ability.  I'm pretty sure Al and Sap have eaten heartily throughout their careers head-to-head with the down-low diva Aldridge.

I figured that marriage with Pop wouldn't work: he isn't a military-type.  Gasol isn't gonna be much better.  He'll go through a stretch of pretty good anchor D, then a week of his best Spanish Matador.

It's been a joy to watch Sap's maturation.  It's reasonable to assume his game will age very well going forward.  You'd be a fool to let  Sap go in his prime when alongside an "All-Star Level, True C."

Definitely see this as a future line up for us and opponents will hate trying to score within their offense on it. Lots of last second chuckers going on there for the bad guys.

Good points to most of you and I do agree we'd get a lot worse defensively.  I think we should at least let it play out and see how good this team is before making a move.

I am worried about next offseason as we are going to have a LOT of FA's and we have an aging team so we're going to have to fill a lot of positions next year or hope that Bembry/Hardaway/Prince develop quickly.

I would just hate to lose Millsap for nothing.  And, most of the time there is a very small window to make a big move for a big name and once that passes you have missed your chance.  The Hawks never make those moves.  We've had essentially the same team since 08.  We had the one big season 2 years ago but we still weren't contenders.  From 08-present we have had a ton of talent and trade bait on this team and we've never made a big move.  At some point i feel like we have to.  Again, I'm cool with remaining status quo for now to see what we have but if we're ever going to contend with Cleveland or any of the West we can't keep drafting in the 20s and expecting to somehow pass these teams.  Especially with our aging star players, our window is going to close quick.

WOW!!! We haven't played one game of THIS season as  yet and you are already worried about next offseason.

Enjoy the season, until you can't anymore (like if we are losing a ton of games) then start looking towards next offseason.

Good cuz I'll need a subway footlong Jared style after they are done with me!!!

Yo @Spud2Nique. Uh, did you really write that you'll need a "subway footlong Jared style" and think that'd be okay? Kiddie porn Jared that went to jail? I don't even know what that means exactly, or what that guy is doing with foot longs in his "subway" while he is in jail, but...

Gross, bruh. Gross. Too far. Shame on you.

Honestly, I hope this ends up being Sap's team.

Yeah, I would much rather give it a go long term with Sap, especially over LMA. I like his versatility and hard hat attitude over Aldridge and his pouty disgruntled self. Sap and his game should age well as long as the knee holds up.

Ban-worthy?  Gimme a 'like' if you think so.  I would 'like' myself but I hear that'll make you go blind.

@LamarHampton is right w.r.t. Sap over LMA and his divo 'tude.  Sap's money will be astronomical and it won't feel super great, but that's the economics of the game circa 2017.

Now It's fixed lol

It's intriguing but I'll pass.

If he's unhappy in SA playing 2nd fiddle  to Kawhi, he'll be unhappy  here playing 3rd fiddle  to Dwight and Dennis.

Our offense is already  a work in progress, no  need to make the defense as well - Millsap is by far the better defender.

Trade Sap if it's obvious he won't re-sign here. Aldridge would be a great get to be honest. I love Sap, but I don't want this team to get left holding the bag like they did when Horford bolted.

I don't think he'll sign back to ATL. He seems like the type that wants the max which I doubt ATL will offer him since majority of the roster will be FAs next summer. Based on how the Hawks handles free agency, everybody takes less - Teague, Korver, Thabo and Dwight did.

You guys are really overrating Millsap. I like him but he's not stopping a LeMarcus  Aldridge level offensive player despite you guys trying to make him into Dennis Rodman defensively. His defense  was not good against the Cavs and he was responsible for many of the open threes given up to Love and Frye. At the end of the day we have to beat the Cavs. I think we would have benefited more from having a go to scorer and rebounder like LeMarcus last year versus the Cavs. Our  defense was not good against  them and we were still close at the end of games but couldn't score or secure rebounds late.

I have a  bad feeling about Millsap without Al; he benefited greatly from the spacing Horford provided. He depends dribble penetration quite a bit and the opposing center will now be planted in the paint giving him less room to operate. Not saying  he'll  fall off completely, but I can see his efficiency taking a hit. Maybe a mini Josh Smith post Al effect.

I would love to eat  crow on this and he have his best year though. The good news is our bench bigs can space the floor for him.

Don't know what you have till you lose it and "no" I'm not talking about Al. Sap would never, ever throw his contract year or any other year to caution. Team player performing well getting his due in this NBA market. Won't have to see him disgruntled about not being featured enough in our offense the way LMA seems to be doing already in SA. Lets see if that information gets by Bud.

For me it isn't so much about Millsap's greatness as Aldridge's not greatness.

Aldridge scores at a .535% TS% while Sap scores at a .560% TS% for their careers which efficiency to me is worth every bit of the extra 2 pp36 that LA scores.

Aldridge has an epic 8.7 rp36 for his career compared to the lowly 9.2 rp36 for Sap.  Sap also grabs a higher % of opportunities on both the offensive and defensive glass so in no way is LA a "go to rebounder."  He is not as good on the boards as Sap.

Sap averages 2.9 steals + blocks per 36 to LA's 1.9.  I think Sap plays more discipline defense as well.  To that end, Sap has more defensive shares than LA every year over the past 5 years despite LA playing more minutes in several of those seasons.

In short, I agree Sap isn't an MVP guy but I don't think people are saying that he is when they say he is better right now than Aldridge.  I think they are recognizing LA's limitations.  To me his biggest limitation is his refusal to use his size inside.  The next season he takes a higher % of shots near the rim than Sap will be his first and that is crazy given that Sap is several inches shorter and has a reach even more limited than that.  LA makes himself a weapon on long 2pt jumpers and that isn't something that makes a star in today's NBA.  It is very nice but he is not willing to push himself to the next level and really dominate and prefers to keep hoisting those 18 footers instead.  You know Pop forcing him to cut back and spend some more time near the basket on both ends of the floor last year is part of the reason for the friction and the rumors about him being shopped.  I don't want to buy into a big man who wants out because he doesn't want to do big man work -- at least not when it is at the expense of a talent like Sap.

I think it is a deal with two similar talents but I like the fit better with Sap.  It is definitely not a deal with a go to scorer and rebounder on either side of the deal.
