Trade PG in general or trade him  to us?

Reasons to trade him:

1. PG has declined to sign the Designated Player Exception for $200 million plus, Bird is probably concerned about that.

2.  If  Boston is not offering anything of value, they have to look elsewhere - Boston is probably offering Olynyk, Amir,  Rozier and Memphis 1st etc - not the BKN picks or  Brown.

3. Do we have the  best offer?  most likely not. but we don't know what other  teams are offering.

Boston #1 target is Butler.  His contract is far more favorable and gives them room to add more talent in free agency but their lack of willingness to include assets has really hurt their image but ain't don't care. He got two top 3 picks and he is not trying to trade them at all.

As much as I'd love Paul George in Hawk gear, there is no way in the hey, hey, HELL that Indiana is doing a deal like this without at least Millsap coming back to them. Pacer fans in Indiana would go nuclear if PG was traded for what is widely regarded as the Hawks B-list players. Larry Bird might as well have a press conference announcing his resignation right after the deal is official. And Danny Ainge would be getting roasted alive in Boston for not parting with the assets needed to make the Pacers take pause and deal him to the Celtics instead.

A Hawks fan can dream, though. Paul George to go along with Howard, Millsap, and Schröder? Eff the 'Big 3'; that's a Fantastic Four lineup right there that can challenge for something other than a second-round sweep from the Lebrons...

If PG is telling people he would on resign in Atlanta that kills any leverage Indy has in trade talks.

Yeah, maybe that would be the case. But if all we're giving up is THJr plus unwanted contracts and some picks which are actually big question marks... and if the 4-headed monster experiment fails, then PG becomes cap space, which would be fine if you ask me. At least the Hawks would have tried to win it all. Other good players could be interested in joining the club if they realize the Hawks are trying to win big.

Isn't he signed through 2019?

He's signed through the 2017-18 season, player option in  2018-19, but he is currently eligible to sign an extension at the  end of this season.

This is a risk I'd take. We wouldn't be losing a vital piece of our team with the exception perhaps of the 1st rounders.

Depends on how many draft picks and when. Makes all the difference. Ask Mike Lynn, the GM who brought Herschel Walker to Minny, and handed the Cowboys a Super Bowl run in the early 90s, right? If Supes' sources are getting good intel, I'd imagine that--each side feeling good about the draft picks exchanged--to be what would take the deal awhile to hatch.

Chicago’s Jimmy Butler, Indiana’s Paul George and Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins are three players who on paper at least, would meet that criteria. Multiple league sources this weekend confirmed that each of their respective teams isn’t making a push to trade them. But like every team in the league, they will certainly listen to any and all offers. "Only Indiana and Sacramento have come out publicly to say they are not planning to trade their players, with the Pacers indicating they’re willing to give up their first-round pick in order to add a stable, proven talent to the mix in order to help George going forward."

Completely unsubstantiated rumor.

I actually don't think that THJ, Bembry, 2017 ATL first, 2017 2nd (either ours, MIA, or BKN) plus 2018 MIN first is that bad of a deal for Paul George. You would obviously have Splitter included as salary filler too.

Are there teams that could beat that? Probably. But are these teams looking to win now and willing to part with future flexibility and picks? There's only a handful of teams that are truly looking to add now and have the assets/space to do so.

Indiana is trying to get a young key baller to get PG resign but it's so hard to land. Indiana hasn't decided to keep or trade. PG13 has made it clear, he wants to contend. Indy wants to contend. So I don't think this is a lock but Atlanta and Indy has made a lot of progress and Tim's improvement has did a number to his trade value.

Kind of ironic no? Look what happened to Cousins...

Not saying the rumor is true, but no one knows at this point. There are a bunch of random rumors to try and gain leverage that teams throw out there.

To be fair to Supes...the same article you quoted has Cousins as not moving. And, well, yeah...we know how that turned out.
