I think it's pretty fair to say that Luka is better than Trae and likely will always be better than Trae

I never said hed be outproducing him..JUst sayin its unfair to compare the two. Put Luka on this Hawks team, and see what his "advanced stats" are..We have no shooters or finishers...

Parker and Jones have been some of the best finishers in their respective positions this year and have been excellent finishers their entire careers (that's literally the only thing Jones can do). Shooters we certainly lack, finishers not so much.

"All time type of season" after 17 games with the 3rd weakest schedule in the league..Again, Doncic is great player, but yall kill me...Trae has flaws, but so does Luka..HIs defense was atrocious last night..But noone mentions it. But if it were TRae...............................

I just checked Doncic’s numbers, got diggity damn.  .298 WS/48?!?!  People get lost in the slow motion flash but rebounding is the slick foundation of his game.  

His ability to switch to 2 guard (24% of his minutes this season) raises the floor for developing guys like Brunson to have a near 3:1 assist to turnover and shoot a .514 efg.  That’s huge when Carlisle can’t develop a roll of film.  Luka is it.

His per 36 min stats are just silly. 30 point triple double on a 625% TS. SMH. Weak schedule or not that's crazy. It's Westbrook's MVP season but with exceptional efficiency.

I was really upset that we traded Luka.  He seemed as close to a no-brainer pick as anyone I've ever seen.  However, Trae has shown me that he is far from your average talent.  I'm not going to say either is better than the other, I'll only say why I don't look at Trae as some kind of consolation prize.

His command of the offense is legitimate, I've only seen a handful of players come in and run the offense like that.  He is a natural point guard.  His passing is on par with Jason Kidd's finest, he sees the floor as good as any superstar that I can think of, he's as fast as any PG I've ever seen, he scores at will, and he has unlimited range.  It doesn't get more special than that.

You guys can argue who is better or who will be better until the end of time...  But nothing Luka does will take away from how good Trae is.  We didn't trade Dirk Nowitzki for Tractor Traylor or pass over Carmelo for Darko.  We passed on one really special player for another special player plus a pick...and we don't really know what that pick will be (though he's not looking real strong right now).

I'm not mad anymore.  You flip a coin on that draft a 100 times, knowing what I know now, and I'm not mad either way it drops.

What he's doing right now really is special. Only 6 players have ever averaged 27/8 in a season before. He's at 27.9 and 8.4 right now. Big O was the youngest at 22. He's just unlucky to be doing all of this alongside Luka.

Trae's efficiency has been impressive this year...I did not expect to see him hitting at near 38% on his attempts. His FT% has finally moved up from last year after a rough start. Overall Trae has improved across the board except on his TOs

There is a clear gap. Mainly due to defense and off the ball skills for Luka. On the ball, I actually think Trae is better and likely will always be better. 

Cam Reddish will decide who won the trade. His potential is as low as a B- to as high as an A+ which is higher than Trae's. If he becomes a B- long term which is the level of current Aron Baynes and John Collins. We lost that deal. 

If Cam is a B+ which is current Trae Young. It was a draw with a slight edge to whoever has the better team long term. If Cam is an A- which is Jimmy Butler current level, an A which is Luka's current level as well as Dame Lillard, or an A+ which is guys like Harden, AD, and PG13, we won that deal by a mile. Even if Luka is the next MJ, you can't trade Hakeem and Magic Johnson for him and win that trade. Not possible. Cam's potential is everything for that deal. Otherwise, as of right now, Trae is a B+, Cam is a D+ and Luka is an A. We are losing the deal and badly I should add. 

That said, Hunter just moved up to a C+ in my book and that means we traded him for Hayes (C-), NAW (D+), a 2nd who's in Aussieland (unranked) and a CLE 1st which is looking like two 2nds. If Hunter keeps improving at this rate as well as a two way wing, Travis might win this trade like the Falcons won the Julio trade. A sum of parts don't equal an whole monster. 

Travis is losing the Omari trade which was: Omari for Jones and a future 2026 2nd rounder. 

Travis is currently losing the Solo Hill/Plumlee for Parsons trade. 

He might not be Ferry in terms of trades where Ferry was winning them by substantial margins.

Over the last 3 games, Trae is shooting 55.9% from the field (68 attempts), 51.6 from 3 (31 attempts) while averaging 6.67 assists and 38.3 ppg.  

 

Regardless, there should never be a 1v1 comparison of Trae and Luka. The trade (in the end) was Trae + Cam for Luka and a better cap number on Trae than Luka.  Its more complicated. 

 

Always remember the talent/maturity on Dallas is much higher than the Hawks right now. He's not doing it all alone, he's got more help.

 

Now let me take a second to cause trouble (puts on social justice hat for a second...adjusts the bill...checks self out in the mirror to make sure I look pompous and self-righteous...looks at label to make sure its environmentally friendly...okay ready to go). I firmly believe that Luka gets the benefit of the calls, more marketing from the league and better press because he's one more example of "the great white hope". Its about money.  Luka brings grumpy old white guys (no I don't mean me) to the games. Great smile, good attitude, good looking kid. He is highly marketable.  He's our generation's Larry Bird....not necessarily skills but league support.

Its not about race.  It is about being really good and getting the superstar tag.  Ever seen how many FTs James Harden gets?  Ever watched how Ewing could do his patented travel that the peons of the league were not allowed to get away with?  Ever see how LeBron and Shaq we’re allowed to just ran smaller players and get trips to the free throw line out of it?  Watched AI go to the line >20 times?  Watched Kobe “draw” a foul by elbowing an opponent in the face?

The league has always given favorable calls, disproportionate press, etc. to its stars.  No different here.  Luka has been good enough to get that status on his own.  Was the best Euro in history for his age and came over here and delivered.

The good news is we’ve seen signs Trae is starting to get some of these calls as well.  When JC returns and we start winning more, the press will follow for Young.  The worst thing he ever did for getting anointed as a superstar was start his career on the wrong foot.  Bad first impression that he has had to overcome for the many members of the sports press who pay attention at the beginning of the season, at the All-Star game and during the playoffs and not much else.
