Makur Maker is going to be a star.

He was injured and only played 2 games at Howard, so his stock has plummeted, but this was a five star recruit and for good reason. This kid looks like Jokic with the ball in his hands.

Which is a great comp considering Jokic also fell to the second round. These scouts miss on prospects all the time, and I believe Maker is the next one they are going to look back on and regret.

6'11, 235, Handles the ball like Embiid/Jokic/KAT etc.... Excellent shooting stroke, fluid mobility with the ball, decent mid post moves, good court vision and able to pass from the post. Defensively solid and can block shots.

Nobody is talking about him but he is going to be a good one

We need to move up in the second round to get him. I didn't know he was THIS good.

He reminds me of a taller Pascal Siakam. Kid moves and handles the rock like a wing. He pulled off a turnaround step back that Cam does.

He isn't even projected to get drafted by most "Mocks". I cannot see how that is possible.

Im sure people think of Tacko Fall or Bol Bol when they look at him. But to me he is a much better athlete than those guys.

1st round talent for sure. I just hope we can get away with having him slip into the second round.

Appreciate these threads as I am pretty bad at following prospects.

One thing I think is funny is how every single draft all of the analysts love to claim this is a 3 player draft then it falls off, or this is a weak draft, etc etc, but then in that "3 player draft" we end up with Hunter and Reddish who very well may be franchise-level players for us.  I'm interested to see who we bring in, hopefully someone that can run backup PG for Trae and mix minutes with Lou/whoever else we bring in.

I would say that was a three player draft. There was a tier 1, two tier 2 guys. Zion, Ja, and R.J. deserved to be the top guys.

Reddish was a tier 3.5 and Hunter was a tier 4 prospect. The difference is, Hunter and Reddish ceiling is much higher than people though, especially Hunter. Hunter is able to create off the drive, something he didn't show at Uva. He showing that he's a legit 3 level scorer with exceptional defensive versatility which we all knew he had that as a prospect. Smart people always saw Cam's potential but didn't know if it was going to be realize, hell, even right now, we still don't know for sure but we are confident.

I agree!

I would love to find a way to get these guys on 2 way deals and let them develop and get acclimated to better competition for a year or so in the g league.

interesting comp on Kessler. I watched him and felt he could turn into a poor mans DeAndre Hunter - but his future is more 4 than 3. Not as much in terms of shot creation, but he’s not horrible in that aspect either. Defense is elite 1-4 and can matchup with some small ball 5s.

as for point guards. #20 is a reach. But if I had to, I wouldn’t be mad at taking Jason Preston there. Combine and his measurements proved his athletic ability shouldn’t hold him back at all. He seems like a perfect fit to be the #3 PG spot for a year and then be full time backup. I really just love his game. Shooting form looked nice at the combine too.

He doesn't showcase the physical potential that Hunter did and he's similar sized and frame to Klay, just longer than Klay. I don't think he will be able to defend the 4 in the NBA as he did in the WCC.

I haven't had a chance to watch him play yet. (Preston)

His issue is he doesn't have a bankable skill-set yet. He is unique nonetheless. He's clearly a G-leaguer till he masters a role for the NBA. Sadly, his association with Thon has hurt him. He could still opt out today and return to college.

Elite college players in terms of production only:

1. Neemias Queta - http://www.tankathon.com/players/neemias-queta

2. Alperen Sengun http://www.tankathon.com/players/alperen-sengun

3. Charles Bassey http://www.tankathon.com/players/charles-bassey

4. Returning - Drew Timme http://www.tankathon.com/players/drew-timme

This is the smallest class of elite production players.

Last year:

Wiseman sample size too small

1. Obi Toppin http://www.tankathon.com/players/obi-toppin

2. Tyrese Haliburton http://www.tankathon.com/players/tyrese-haliburton

3. Udoka Azubuike http://www.tankathon.com/players/udoka-azubuike

4. Vernon Carey Jr http://www.tankathon.com/players/vernon-carey-jr

5. Xavier Tillman  http://www.tankathon.com/players/xavier-tillman

It's clear, big men especially centers dominate college but struggle to translate into the NBA.

The year before

1. Zion http://www.tankathon.com/players/zion-williamson

2. Ja http://www.tankathon.com/players/ja-morant

3. Hunter http://www.tankathon.com/players/de-andre-hunter

4. Clarke http://www.tankathon.com/players/brandon-clarke

5. Grant Williams http://www.tankathon.com/players/grant-williams

6. Dylan Windler http://www.tankathon.com/players/dylan-windler

7. Bruno http://www.tankathon.com/players/bruno-fernando

@TheNorthCydeRises consider Bruno's college production and his talent, I think Atlanta is just the wrong team for him. He needs to go to a team like Chicago that plays inside out Basketball or Denver. Almost all of the bigs who have produced, even the ones who sucked like Jones, were productive because they were finishers playing with Trae who does all of the work.

@NBASupes I haven't followed the Kings at all, so I know absolutely nothing about your boy Bagley other than they are the butt of every joke for taking him over Doncic and Trae. So what has been his problem? I see the Kings are rumored to be thinking of moving on from him. Is he worth taking a flyer on or is it all bad? I ask mainly because we are gonna need to find a replacement for Gallo probably after this next season.

Terrible fit honestly. He's still an elite athlete and a freaky talent but he's bad a setting screens, terrible at PnRs, demands post touches without the ability to really pass out of them, his defense has looked pretty bad for most of his time till the last 6 games where he flashes very good defensive potential. He's basically Jabari Parker before the injuries with less range and better defense but being used all wrong without the consistent range. He's working on his range and getting better at it but I don't see it at Parker's level yet or at least Idk.

Injuries haven't helped but he hasn't lost anything either which is good. He's a tough fit for most teams in the modern NBA. Remember Jabari before he got hurt with us. He's a much better version of that if used like that.

I am pissed as I lost all of my work for RealGM thread but here is the short of it.

No tier 1 or tier 1.5 prospects. No Zion, Bagley III (Miss) or Ayton and Luka tier 1.5

Six tier 2 guys. Cade slightly higher than the others and higher than Ja or R.J. of previous tier 2s.

Cade, Barnes, Kuminga, Suggs, Green, and Mobley

Mobley was compared to Porzingis with Gasol like playmaking. He's more athletic but not at tall.

Cade was compared to Cam Reddish and Grant Hill.

Barnes to Scottie Pippen

Kuminga to Jamal Mashburn (two years away)

Suggs to VanVleet and Lonzo Ball

Green to Bradley Beal and Avery Bradley

No tier 3 or 3.5 guys this year.

A lot of tier 4 players - 25 at this moment, could be more when I am done.

Overall, a lot of talent in this class. Moreso guys with higher floors than ceiling this year compared to previous years.

Guys I really like:

James Bouknight - 20 ppg scorers in the NBA level are hard to find. He has the modern skills to score effectively in this league.

Davion Mitchell - People are sleeping on the next Joe Dumars. He's worth a top 10 pick. He's not Donovan but he offers a lot for winning hoops.
Josh Giddey - I am intrigued with a triple double type of PG who raises the floor of an offense.

Nah'Shon Hyland - Buckets who has some defensive potential is hard to find. Not quite the offensive weapon as IQ, his ability to score and defend is intriguing.

Tre Mann
6-5    190    PG    Florida    So.

Jared Butler
6-3    195    PG/SG    Baylor    Jr.

Sharife Cooper
6-1    180    PG    Auburn    Fr.

I like all three for different reasons. Cooper is the most like Trae Young of any prospect since Young. He's clearly not as good as a scorer or shooter but he close or as good at otherwise. That's intriguing considering how we are building out our roster. Mann is like Dinwiddle. Butler is the best of the three but he has some health questions.
CharlesBassey
6-11    235    PF/C    Western Kentucky    Jr.
AlperenSengun
6-9    240    C    Besiktas    2002
NeemiasQueta
7-0    245    C    Utah State    Jr.

I like these three centers. I think they can add value in time. Maybe they will be their at 48 but I am not counting on it.

Trey Murphy
6-9    205    SF/PF    Virginia    Jr.

JT Thor
6-10    205    SF    Auburn    Fr.

These two have a lot of potential. A lot. It's likely both will be 1st rounders as others see it too but if you are looking for wings, these two are interesting.

Quentin Grimes
6-5    205    SG    Houston    Jr.

MJ Walker
6-5    215    SG    Florida St.    Sr.

My two favorite 2nd round prospects. Both high floor players who can help you right now in the NBA and really can dominate the G-league.

Chris Smith
6-9    215    SF/PF    UCLA    Sr.

Chris is my undrafted FA fav this year. He has potential to be a good NBA player. He just needs to continue developing.

Damn Didnt Charles Bassey declare like 3 years ago? lol

E.J. Onu is my guy. That's the 2nd rounder that I want. Someone with a long potential but needs a year in College Park and he needs development long term but he could be 6'11, 260, 7'8 WS, with an elite shooting touch and rim protection. That's extremely hard to find. He's raw tho.

E.J. Onu is my #1 prospect in the 2nd round for the Hawks.

- Legit 3 point shot 4 3PA a game making 3 of them at 48.5%.

- He has a legit one legged Embiid jumper that's legit

- Elite shot blocker

- 7'8 wingspan

- runs the floor well but needs more body development for the NBA

I don't think I've ever seen this in a package.

It's like he's Nerlens Noel on fleek!

I f***ing want this kid BAD!

http://jtmbasketball.blogspot.com/2021/01/scouring-nation-part-2-ej-onu.html

I just been watching videos for the last hour like OMG. Where has this kid been. It's clear he was on scouts radar or he wouldn't have gotten the invite to both the G-League and NBA Combine.

His skill level is developed. What's interesting is his dribble drive is not legit but it's impactful in that he could do this in game with space. He's developed and most bigs who come into the NBA aren't at all.

Senior guys from NAIA are generally developed well with certain skills. I played at that level. It's legit but NBA quality prospects just aren't there much if at all from the time I played. Pros for sure but NBA players are rare. He's no exception but guys like him generally aren't in college pass their Soph year. I am in love with this kid. With a year for physical development and time in College Park. With mentorship from Capela, this kid could be something special in 2023-24.
