If I'm John, I'd balk at that and just take the qualifying offer . . and bet on myself next summer in free agency.

No way he does that. His QO is $7 million. Too much risk on his end.

And there's always the leverage.of OKC. A low enough price and they'll get more interested.

And I know he wants that 5th year.  If they're not willing to give it to him, and he has to take 4/90, he should put in a clause that he can have a player option after Year 2.  Give the team the option after year 3.  That way he hits free agency way earlier.
