OFFICIAL TRAINING CAMP OPENING SOON !!  🥰

Yes!  Now, instead of counting the months or weeks we now count the days.  I'm sure the Hawks have been running around, getting in shape.  Dropping those excess pounds of fat.  Coming into camp slick and ready to go.  As a lesson learned, Spellman failed this test as a Hawk.  Too bad.  I liked him.

With 20 warm bodies to keep busy, coach and all his assistants will be busy beavers in the coming days leading up to that 1st exhibition game.  I believe they plan to have all pre season games on TV.

The question remains, which Atlanta team reaches the top first.  The Dream has failed this season.  The Falcons have yet to win a game in this young season and they are in rebuild.  Braves are hanging on to their 1st spot but are in a struggle.  Soccer team is a no, no.

This currently leaves the Hawks.  They left us breathless in the playoffs last season, tied for 3rd.  We believe we are better.  Talking heads do not believe but we do.  Waiting!  Ready for action!

GO ATL HAWKS !!

:sun:

Decent preview from non-Hawks fans.

A couple of points that I dont agree with but that some posters on here have mentioned before:

They see Dre's best fit as a PF long term

They believe Bogi would be better suited off the bench

They think Cooper should get regular minutes at backup PG sooner than later.

They admire our depth but consider it to be a problem going forward

They say Trae is merely an All Star level guy as opposed to MVP level guy (like Luka)

1 - If "long-term" means "when he is 27 or 28".... yes, that's altogether reasonable. He can be another Paul Millsap, and maybe even better.

2 - I've seen Bogi off the bench, albeit small sample size. Prefer Bogi starting, and getting synched up with the rest of the backcourt immediately

3 - If "sooner than later" means "as soon as 2022-23," maybe. Getting drunk on summer league and making significant PT decisions is not wise. Give it time. The things that made him the 12th PG selected in the draft didn't magically vanish just because he had some impressive minutes against SL competition.

4 - Of course they would. Too many talk about 2021-22 as-if we should just skip it and 2022-23, and make roster decisions as-if it's 2023-24 already.

5 - I'm slow to give anyone, including Luka, "MVP level guy" status until  it's actually happened.

And in that vein. It remains a very viable possibility that Luka ends up with a reputation for being one of the best all-around players ever, yet counterintuitively, whose DAL teams boasted no championships, ostensibly because his teams became too Luka-centric to ever get to that level. If he ever earns an MVP or a championship, it could be that it's only after he embraces his inner ringbrat and joins the ringbrat brotherhood.

They did drag the Mavs for not building around him the way we did Trae. They were very complementary of our front office, but it was also a built in scapegoat by saying Trae has the better team and that's why Trae had better playoff success.

Here was their logic:

Hawks fans are so focused on competing right now, but we probably aren't going to win a title this year. We would be better off sacrificing a few wins by grooming Cooper now as the featured backup to Trae so that in 2-3 years when the team IS ready to play for a title, he will ready to go. They think we will regret not developing him in lieu of playing vets.

I disagree - that's faulty logic.

We may not ultimately win a title this year, but that should be the goal first and foremost.  The objective is to maximize Trae and give him the best possible chances EVERY year.

Nope....they're not allowed to use that excuse. The Hawks weren't allowed to use this the 1st 2 years of Trae's career when our roster sucked monkey balls especially since we were deliberately tanking.

Most definitely. Amnesia is real amongst the talking heads.

1. How much better will Trae Young get?

2. Can De’Andre Hunter continue to look as good as he did?

3. Is this the year Cam Reddish emerges?

4. Will the Hawks lock in Kevin Huerter to a new deal?

5. What’s the next stage of development for John Collins?

6.  Can Bogdan Bogdanovic be one of the five best 3-point shooters?

7.  Can Clint Capela be just as dominant defensively?

8. How will Jalen Johnson look alongside other pros?

9.  Who makes sense to fill the 15th roster spot?

10. How will the Hawks handle high expectations?
