I like it.  Even if he doesn't improve at all it's not a bad deal unless he can't stay healthy, but that's a risk with any player.  None of his injuries have been chronic at this point so I'm not worried about that. 

He has upside to be worth a LOT more, and this team is ready to compete now so we can't afford to lose him, and we can't afford him if he had a breakout year given DJMs' contract situation coming up next year.  This was the only way IMO.

Happy with this -- $24M for Hunter has the potential to look like a big underpay in a year, especially in 2-3.  He's still not getting paid as much as JC and I wouldn't be surprised if his production is higher than JCs this year.  I know it was preseason, but he looks like he can put the ball on the floor now.

So does this deal give us the financial ability to extend DJM next year?  Or will we be in the Tax before that deal?  Any impact?

DJ won't extend his current contract he'd be short changing himself. Better for him to hit FAcy when the cap is expected to be higher.

He can only be extended for a maximum of 3 years at 120% of his last year contract amount. So $17.7 mil x 120% is $21.2 million plus 8% raises. He's not taking that.

I think it's a fair deal.   His injuries.  His improvement.   it's fair.

Pretty fair deal for him, and has the potential to be a steal if his handle and shot creation are real. 

Trae x JC x Hunter x Murray is a great core top 4 to have for at least finishing off the first half of the 20's
