Let's draft Dre's replacement in the 2nd round game

https://tankathon.com/past_drafts/2022

Let's see.... um I don't even see any big wings in the 2nd round

https://tankathon.com/past_drafts/2021

Herb Jones makes an entrance, while I'll take Dre all day over Jones, this does quality for what @Spud2nique stated. He's an undersized big wing but he barely meets the mark.

https://tankathon.com/past_drafts/2020

A lot of big wings in the 2nd and none more than a reserve

https://tankathon.com/past_drafts/2019

Few big wings, none more than bench players in the 2nd round

https://tankathon.com/past_drafts/2018

None of the big wings in the 2nd round are still in the NBA

Lol

Cedi is at least rotational. More than you can say about the rest.

Probably the best 2nd round of all time. Jerami Grant is not a big wing to me but he was labeled one in the past. He really doesn't guard smaller players so that's a risky one.

2nd greatest 2nd round class ever. Middleton and Crowder. Impressive. Unlikely to ever seen Middleton in the 2nd round again. The game wasn't a 3pt shooting game for big wings yet so they had to develop that in the NBA instead of college unlike they do today.

No one I would consider big wings but impressive 2nd round class

Landry!

So @Spud2nique, hell no

I didn’t read all that but how bout just Bey is better. If I had to choose from the 2 I take Bey. Hunter is hesitating and making me nervous while Bey is putting a smile on my face.

Dre is literally having the 86th-worst offensive productivity of all 100 qualifiers. But his offensive impact is 12th of all 100 players in the playoffs. So two things can be true. His production has been garbage. His impact has been massive.

How are you measuring offensive impact?  Is that by +\- for the offense when he is on and off the floor or something else?

I should have prefixed it but I didn't. Hunter is showing tremendous possession by possession value in terms of actions, decision-making (on or off the ball), movement which is really just actions in how Quin uses him, and his reactions have been miles better than the norm we get from Dre which used to be minimal.

This is helping everyone around Dre. I talk about where we miss Kevin was his spacing genius till Bey joined and Bey brought it back. I call it subtle movement. It's not mastery of off-ball movements like Klay or Steph but it's the minor subtle movement where you don't have to screen or run actions to get the full benefit. This is why Kevin was so valuable to us.

Dre before Quin was never this valuable or even valuable at all on offense. Not even slightly. His value was literally based on makes and misses. Something that some seem to still judge him by today.

I have always had a preference for possession by possession ball. I've always said that and have been saying that since 2010. You've been on here for a while, I've always valued it.

That said, I would be more careful with words like impact. His value to our team based on his on or off is XnX in the league. I should have said that instead of impact as the impact has more of a mix of production and possession by possession excellence and I can't say impact when you are literally in the 90s for production out of 100 players.

What qualifies as midrange here?

I count 28 3pt attempts, 11 shots outside of the paint (i.e., the painted area extending up to the free throw line), and around 29 shots in the paint.  If we are counting jumpers taken in the painted area but closer to the free throw line as midrange then that shifts quite a bit but I think those are much higher % shots than the ones I identified as "outside the paint" above which is what I typically think of as being emphasized by teams that shoot a lot of bad jumpers.

Using the method I just used for counting, Nate's Hawks had 17 shots outside the paint against Boston which is way more bad 2pt shots.

To me, the midrange is not just the distance but the type of shot.  When Murray drives into the paint, it's not like he's shooting a floater or driving all the way in for a layup.  He's normally taking a 12 - 15 footer.

Here are Murray's shots in the last game:

https://www.nba.com/stats/events?CFID=&CFPARAMS=&ContextMeasure=FGA&EndPeriod=0&EndRange=28800&GameID=0042200113&PlayerID=1627749&RangeType=0&Season=2022-23&SeasonType=Playoffs&StartPeriod=0&StartRange=0&TeamID=1610612737&flag=3&sct=plot&section=game

And here is his shot chart last game

image.png.366f046e0cc271fd404976db8afe82d0.png

Whether it be short midrange or long midrange, I consider the midrange any shot above the dotted line in the lane and outside the paint.  So everything outside of the yellow is the midrange to me.  So basically, 10 feet and out.

Here was Dejounte shooting on the season, and where he shot it from:

The 10 - 16 ft is what used to be called the "short midrange".  Now everyone focuses on not taking long 2's, which is fine, but you still need guys who are proficient in that short midrange area.  That's where Murray, Dre, and Trae ( with his floater ) excel at.

Dang Supes.  Just not seeing it with Dre. My eyes and emotions are betraying me because I haven't seen offensive impact at all.  If he puts the ball on the floor it seems like an automatic fk up.  Not feeling anything he's bringing to the game right now.
