Watched the game late last night. WHAT A WIN! DJ is taking this being his trade value personally. Grimes, Reaves, bunch of crap offers for this gamer. Back to back game winners!!!  KABOOM -E Reid

So I’m watching the first 3 quarters with the Heat announcers cuz I couldn’t get Bob n Nique. @kg01 it was horrible. I felt dirty through 3, I even had to watch the halftime UD ceremony and listen to Pat Riley, UD, watch Wade, Zo, LGBTQ’s most hated lil Timmy Hardonaway. 
 

I was impressed with the overall play of the entire squad. Bey missed some but made some tough plays around the hoop. OO WAS ON IT TONIGHT! THIS IS THE OO THAT WANTS TO START AHEAD OF CLINT.

Bogi was nice with the stroke, such a pretty release and on it.

JJ showed me some more new tricks. Wow. He’s legit.

Reporter: what did you guys discuss at halftime to adjust?

DJ- we know they got a coach over there that wants to “punk” you, first off, don’t let anyone punk you @kg01.. love it. Ok ..I’m hearing a report.

I pointed out last week.  Starting with the Philly game, the Hawks were going to play 7 games in 11 nights with 2 back to backs.

Even when we finish the 7 game stretch tonight, the Hawks play ever other night for the next 5 games until the end of the month.  Then in February, we play 8 out of 13 nights before the All-Star break, with 2 back to backs.

He was 2 - 11 FG in the 2nd half, until he made that last shot.

If he misses that shot, the narrative of last night's game would be that DJ, once again, had a great 1st half, only to flame out again in the 2nd, which was the narrative all of December.  The Hawks, overall, would've been praised for playing a very competitive game on the road, but DJ would've taken a hit.

But that's why you have star players on your team.  No matter how bad they're shooting, they still believe in their talent.  They believe that they can make the plays at the end of a game.

DJ took an uncharacteristic hero ball 3 from about 30 feet, but it was the right play.  On the replay, all 5 guys are converging on DJ to cut out any path into the midrange.   If DJ wanted to pass once he rose up for the shot, he actually had Bey and Okongwu cutting to the basket on both wings.  But that would've been a pass that had to lead them to the rim and for Bey or Okongwu to catch cleanly and immediately shoot it.  So the "hero ball" was the right now.

 

So nice to see the team regain a little focus this week and start winning again.

When DJ said “don’t ever let anybody punk you” that did it for me. Miami has always punked us because we’ve historically played soft and predictable offensively. This guy has the culture we need to build here and we’re willing to let him walk out the door for peanuts
 

Snyder has GOT to figure out how to make Trae and DJ work. They need to take him off the trade market right now and make Snyder use that basketball savvy intelligence and figure it out. 
 

DJ has the mental toughness that we need as a TEAM. He plays better as a natural PG. the team plays better when he leading in that way and we make less mistakes / turnovers. They clearly feed off of his energy which causes the team to lock in more. Guys are involved.. 
 

trae can still be our superstar. But he will either need to be open to playing more off ball or doing something else that Snyder needs to figure out. Either way, it makes no sense to trade DJ - right now at least. We simply gave up too much to not try again. 
 

it may mean literately putting every other player on the trade market to make it work but (OO, Capela, Hunter, Bey, AJ) should all be on the table. Shoot, maybe even bufkin should be on the table to go find us bigs who can defend around Trae and Murray. 
 

I know our FO loves Bufkin and I’ve heard reports that he is an untouchable but we can’t keep everybody if we seriously want to compete right now. 
 

seems like it’s too many cooks in the FO office to make a decision on this but they need to be decisive, bold and put the chips in.

Hawks played a better defensive game vs Orlando, with Trae and DJ on the court.

But in the last 2 games, we've seen Bey play excellent defense on Banchero and JJ play excellent defense as a frontcourt rover.

DJ made the correct play in that situation.  That shot was the best one available.  No sense in taking 2 - 3 more dribbles, and having a midrange jumper contested.

Star players make hero ball shots.

It reminded me of the Trae 3 point game winner in Boston in last year's playoffs.

It's malpractice that we don't play him more.  We need his energy, effort, spirit desperately. 

Also the AJ thing.  I get he was out for personal reasons but the 'not playing AJ' thing started last season.  It's time for Kwin to figure him out.  Meth-Bogi balled out (for him) but he hasn't been that much better than I imagine AJ would be.  Cmon, Kwin!

Up until about 2 weeks ago, this statement was absolutely false.  We've talked most of the season about how the DJ led PG lineups have been failing the Hawks, especially back in late November - mid December when he was struggling a little.  Once he started to play much better in January, the play of the lineups he's been leading have improved as well.

There is a lot of "prisoner of the moment" talk going on with DJ now, off of one game.  Show me all of this talk about DJ leading the way and being the better alternative as the PG before tonight's game? This has been one of the biggest reasons why people ( including the front office apparently ), are saying that DJ doesn't "fit" here.

The issue has recently been with our starting lineup with Bey playing with the starters, and Clint's floor time being a net negative.  The amount of corner 3s that Bey is missing has absolutely killed that unit, along with Clint's inability to affect the offense outside of grabbing offensive rebounds and catching lobs.

Clint again was a ( -12 ) last night.  The last shot that DJ made at the end of the game, put him back at ( +3 ).

Perhaps my favorite part was Jimi Buttler down the stretch CLEARLY foul-baiting for all to see and the refs swallowing the whistle.  Rightfully so.

Our guy gets burned by it but guys like Jimi, JoeLLLL, and others skate by unscathed.  Keep that same energy, zebras.

Jimi getting the offensive foul on that one drive was ... chef's kiss, baybee.  I think I needed a cigarette.

Yeah, I don't really want Murray traded either.  But I'm also not gonna throw away a year+ of seeing him play and use these last 2 games as 'proof' he should be 'the guy' here.  It (Trae+Murray) can work, we just need the wing and C fixed.

Maybe we don’t have the whole scoop, but it’s baffling to me that Q hasn’t shook it up more than he has up to this point.  Seems content on rolling with the same ‘ol same ‘ol.  Now I’ll contradict myself a little here and say he did kind of do that last night with Trae being out and the extended minutes of those off the bench.  So there’s that.  

And I get it, he’s playing the cards he was dealt.  But some of the hands he’s been laying down are just flat out bewildering.  I don’t know if he’s in a tug of war with the FO and doing it intentionally until he gets his way with this team or what?  I know he sees it.

I can only compare it to a movie with a guy flying a jet through a canyon.  They make you think he’s going Mach whatever.  Tight corners and narrow passes.  Then suddenly he’s starring at the canyon wall coming up.  It’s dead ahead.  He’s flying straight at it.  He’s running out of time.  Alarms are going off.  The dramatic music kicks in and the moment becomes intense.  He’s thinking of what to do.  Meanwhile….I’m sitting on the couch and yelling at the TV, “Pull up dumb_ _ _!!!  Pull up”!!!

Sigh.  3 game win streak and here I am ranting.  Ugh.  Carry on.
