Good thing Hawks are in the East (Can still make the playoffs but not a championship caliber team)

I can see them best case being 8th seed as of right now. I definitely see CLE, TOR, CHA, NY, BOS, MIL and INDY making it. 8th spot is toss up between ATL, CHI, WAS, ORL and DET - they're inconsistent.

The volatility of the East continues - NYK is no longer in,  WAS at 6.

What I was expecting from NY at the start of the season but Washington is the opposite right now. Always figure the Wizards will implode a handful of times during each season and be the eight seed at best by the time the playoffs come around. Both Knick's points are talented offensively but are mentally issue laced and the PG position is a tad bit important to make and do anything in the postseason.

The team has been playing much better since the big loss to Toronto (Minnesota losses aside) and now have with a three game winning I think the next 10 games might decide if the team can still put together a solid season. Let's look at what is up for the next 10 games:

http://www.espn.com/nba/team/schedule/_/name/atl/atlanta-hawks

@ Orlando

@ New Orleans

@ Dallas

@ Brooklyn

vs. Boston

vs. Milwaukee

@ NY Knicks

@ Pistons

vs. Chicago

vs. Philadelphia

The majority are road games, but there are lots of beatable teams there. Orlando has given the Hawks problems for a few years and Boston might be tough, but everyone else on here is very beatable. New Orleans only has role players outside of AD, Dallas is a patchwork team with mostly spare parts.  The Knicks and Pistons might present a challenge but I think they can go 7-3 in this stretch.

Honestly, the schedule is fairly light until March. March is a tough month because they have GS, Memphis twice, Cleveland, Toronto, Indiana, SA, Boston and Charlotte,

Now is the time to make a move. I'd still like to see them pick up a shooter/scorer at the wing position.

How many wins? We have a 4 game home stand to start the 10 game stretch - we have been struggling at home big time, getting blown out.  I'm hoping for 3 of 4 games on the home stand, SAS is a loss, we just can't beat them.

Can this team put together a consistent effort like they have been doing against the top teams ON THE ROAD vs Raptors and Thunder?

We've gone 7-0 with 3 left to play to 41 games.

Seltics, Bucks  Knicks left.

I believe Hawks will still make it in the playoffs. There a lot of teams in the East struggling compared to teams in the West. Right now Hawks are 6th place.

I still don't think Hawks are a championship caliber team though, they don't have enough talent and Dennis still learning how to play as a starter pg and run a team. Same to Dwight, this is his first year as a Hawk, he's still learning to play with the team. Korver is inconsistent this year compared to previous years. Turnovers are still a problem, i could go on but i will still watch this team progress this season. I know there are some hawks fans who are not fan of coach Bud but I still have faith in Hawks and coach Bud,  Looking at Hawks history, Hawks won their first championship in 1958, i want to see them win their second championship coming from a Spurs fan. It might not be this year but hopefully they will win at least one before Bud is done coaching or get fired if things still doesn't work out.

At the halfway point of the season, 41 games played we are 4th in the East with a 24-17 record.  That puts us on pace to finish 48-33 (Identical record to last season).

We started the 10 game stretch against NY and finished against NY.  They were the 5 seed ahead of us at #6.  They are now out of the playoffs at #11.

If we continue to play the way we have played over the last 10 games (9-1), we should be able to improve on that record.

41 games left - The first 10 games:

Home: CHI, PHI, LAC, WAS, NYK, ORL

Away: DET, CHI, MIA, HOU

What will our record be over the next 10?  I'll say 8-2.

After all the roster changes and rumors of trades and rebuild we pretty much are on the same pace and page as last season. We still are a good defensive team (5º DefRat) and not so good on offense (21º OfRat).

On offense we struggle on three point shooting (23º, 34,6%) and free throw shooting (28º, 71,9%). Also the turnovers are quite a problem (bottom five).

On the contrary, after the addition of Howard we have gone from being a bad rebounding team to one above the average. It looks like we are more ready for the tight playoff games with toughness and resilience. Hopefully by playoff time we can deploy full roster at maximum potential.

Given recent perfomances, at least we should take care of business at home games and make a push for the 2nd or 3rd position until ASG. I believe we have room of improvement mostly on offense and building chemistry. IMO we need good outings from the wings, especially Bazemore and Hardaway.

It's going to basically be impossible to not make the playoffs unless another stretch like what is coming (really what is going on now) is fumbled away AGAIN like last year. Both last year and this year ended up being at the same marker so far (with this year having a not as good SRS though) but the difference last year is a relatively easy stretch got fumbled away (they recovered though in March during the hardest part of the schedule). If this team has it together, this month realistically should be wrapped up at 5-2.

If it does get fumbled away it's going to depend on how things come together for the team to recover, just like last year.

What we need to do is:

1. beat the teams we are supposed to beat

2. take care of homecourt

3. not get blown out by 40 pts to miserable teams

We will be ok.

They middle 5-13 stretch where we lost 7 in a row was just horrible.  We couldn't score and we couldn't stop anyone.
