I know that they let the captains draft teams regardless of conference, but imagine if the old way was still around and these vote rankings held up through the entire process. The East vs West player to player matchups and storylines would be so good:

Lebron  vs Giannis   (The best player in the world title battle)

Kawhi   vs Siakam   (Former teammates, the master vs the emerging student)

AD    vs   Embiid   (the best Big man in the league battle)

Harden    vs   Kyrie   (Superstar, All Star vet battle)

Luka    vs Trae   (This matchup needs no introduction)

 

Luka versus Trae would be such a good matchup. Luka would post Trae to death and Trae would dance with Luka all over the court.

In the 2010-11 season, Kyle Lowry led the NBA in shots made from 28+ feet. Lowry made six shots from that distance that season (data from basketballreference.com).

Last season, Steph Curry made 62 shots from 28+ feet, the greatest number since the NBA began tracking shot distances in 2000-01. (Trae finished second behind Curry).

At the halfway point of this season, Trae has made 41 shots from 28 feet and beyond. These shots have value. They increase the amount of distance that defenses have to cover. They make teams chase over screens instead of ducking under them. And, of course, they count for three points instead of two.

Trae is not just knocking down a high volume of these shots. He is also converting them at an unthinkable 40.2 percent clip.

The touch, coordination and feel for the game that it takes to make these kinds of shots should not be underestimated. If it was in any way an easy thing to do, other NBA players would have done it.

This stood out to me.  This kid will be scary in his prime if this continues (He's already pretty devastating offensively).  

I remember when we first drafted Trae and @AHF had concerns about the 30 footers.  If he shoots them like that, pull up from the logo Trae..haha.

BTW, this is no way a call out, AHF.  Just remember the conversation we had then.

So who do you guys think the Media , and players will vote for ,in the Starting Guards spots in the East.

I think the Media will vote for Walker and Simmons. And i can see the players going with Walker , and Lowry, even though Trae has been better than them. The Hawks record is a problem.

I can’t love this enough. This, this right here separates him from the guys that could shoot outside but never made it in the league or thrived like Trae because they didn’t drive to the hoop.

I know Trae has only been with us a year and a half but he was already in my top 10 Hawks of all time to start the year, now he’s top 5.

I definitely do see a chance if this happening and I have to admit that in the past, I’ve always rooted for the team with the better player to get in the game.

I know I’m biased but this year I feel like the player (Trae) is head and shoulders above the competition to not make an appearance but your right they could possible penalize him for that.

I do think that the league though recognized the amount of excitement Trae can generate for the fans in an all star game. So we have that going for us.

If Trae makes it into the all star game, it will be because of the fan and player votes.  The media is on an all out campaign to keep him out of the game all together and it really is sad.

Amazingly slow process for them to get it. Surprisingly ESPN has shown more highlights this season of Trae which I am sure is like pulling a tooth for them. But overall I see what you are saying about sports writers in general. Makes you wonder how many minutes they have actually watched of Trae on the floor.
