I don’t want to get into too many details, but Trae has controlled what he can control. who wants to translate that into Hawksquawk? For Trae it was the same in college, same in the draft. I've never seen a player with this much talent and deliver this kind of production be so criticized. At what point do you admit that he is damn good. There are exactly 3 players doing what he's doing this year. Luka, Lebron, Trae. >25 pts, >8 assists >4 rebounds More motivation i guess. 7

(wait, they can't check the records on that since the crash? No? Ok) *ahem* ... as someone who was always a fan of Trae, I don't get it either. What do people have against him? He's not any more cocky or brash as most other guys in the league. It's weird. But he's ours so I like it and they can all suck it. 2

If Marcus Smart doesn't like you then you're in a big club. Kris Dunn. Who gives a flip. Trae will definitely piss people off and guys will come after him on the court. Doesn't mean they don't respect him. Folks make a big deal about the nutmeg passes being some how taboo but think trying to leap over guys for dunks is cool. Despite the fact that it usually fails and is 100 times more dangerous. Hell Lou Williams was getting pissed at BG getting in his shirt in the fourth and then after the game told the media the Hawks need to pay him big money. What's on the court is different 8
Moderators Popular Post AHF Posted January 24, 2020 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted January 24, 2020 Trae definitely has some fans among the players. If you recall at the time of the ROY vote last season, there were a bunch of vets who publicly backed him in a year where the case was pretty tilted towards a certain Mav. It may be me not paying attention, but I don't remember guys throwing their hat in the ring on the ROY vote like that in the past.

Moderators Popular Post lethalweapon3 Posted January 24, 2020 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted January 24, 2020 I recall an embittered RealGM Laker fan who was like, "Has there ever been a 5-time All-Star who was worse than Joe Johnson?" (probably in all caps) I replied with this picture, said, "You're Welcome," and went on about my day. ~lw3

It's because he is a top player who is becoming a legitimate superstar, which brings a lot of detractors. Look how much criticism LeBron / KD / Harden / Kyrie get every year. Trae is relevant. But the fact that the team isn't winning you'll get a lot of "empty stats" comments. As Hawks fans who follow the team, we know that isn't the case. It's the fact that Schlenk didn't try to compete this year, and Collins suspension / Heurter injury are much bigger reasons. But, we will start winning next year and lots of people will come around. Once we start winning, he will start getting criticism for flopping a la Harden, etc. It's never going to stop. I'm just glad we have someone who is relevant and actually on the national radar, for once.
Moderators Popular Post AHF Posted January 24, 2020 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted January 24, 2020 Made my one post on this issue on RealGM just to pile on. I'm sure I'll get an unthoughtful response from a hater. Don't care. Too busy enjoying Trae's selection! Quote It is funny how many people on this thread are posting about how Trae's selection is an affront to the basketball gods but have obviously not watched the team this year. Other than Trae, this is by far the worst roster in the entire league this season. The second best player, John Collins, missed 25 games. The third best player, Kevin Huerter, has been hurt most of the season. The rest of the roster is struggling rookies (at least offensively) and largely G-League talent (Damion Jones, Evan ".434% TS%" Turner, Allen "hurt and shooting 20% from 3pt range for most of the season" Crabbe). The best of the reserves have been Jabari Parker who has been injured for a large chunk of the season, Alex Len who is limited and started off the year playing like garbage, and DeAndre Bembry who can't hit a jumper and is as likely to turn the ball over as make a play. The team's failures aren't on Trae. They are on Travis Schlenk who deliberately did not add useful veterans this offseason and the parade of missed games by guys who should have among the team's top 7 players (Collins, Huerter, Parker, Crabbe). This team has been playing Vince Carter significant minutes at PF because they've been so undermanned. Remember that Carter is a 43 year old swingman. So don't get confused when you look at team metrics and see the team stinks on offense and defense. They do. But that isn't Trae's fault. (He is improved on defense this season but still isn't average there yet. He has more moved from abysmal to passable but there are a lot of offensive guards who aren't impactful on defense and have the team support to cover that. He doesn't. In fact, just about everyone on the team is between a 110 and 116 Drtg because that is a team driven stat and the total team is collectively inexperienced and challenged on that end.)Here are a couple of quotes from national media members explaining their selections of Trae which bear on the team's woeful offense not being his fault: When one compares the Hawks' offense with and without Trae on the court, the Hawks have been 17.4 points per 100 possessions better with Trae in the game. I couldn't exclude Young just because Atlanta is slightly more terrible than the also terrible Wizards and Bulls. With John Collins suspended 25 games, the Hawks didn't have an NBA-level roster. With Young on the floor now, they are a normal bad team; they at least have a chance. Without him, the Hawks are roadkill: minus-13 points per 100 possessions, which is more or less grounds for relegation. The Hawks are dead-last in the NBA in Offensive Efficiency … but with Young on the court they’re 19th, despite having basically no second option besides Young. Meanwhile, in the 16.4 minutes a game he doesn’t play they’ve posted an almost unspeakably bad 90.4 Offensive Rating – 13 points per 100 worse than the worst team in the league! Read that again – this is insane! As a result of Atlanta's lack of secondary offensive threats for most of the season, people who have watched the Hawks or just read the statistics know that opponents key on Young and double him as much as any player in the league. Despite all of this, Trae has been remarkably productive and efficient with his touches.Put him on a roster with Siakam, FVF, Anunoby, Gasol, Ibaka and Powell (i.e., players vastly better than their Atlanta counterparts) and you guys who want to "reward winning" could happily nod your heads at the selection of someone from one of the top teams in the East instead of wringing your hands about the Hawks' woeful record.Look I'll respect someone who says that only winning teams should have All-Stars even if I disagree. But even if you were someone who was screaming about Kyrie Irving's All-Star selections pre-LeBron and will beat their chest about how KAT should be excluded from the All-Star roster this year, don't make the mistake of believing that Young is putting up empty numbers or that he should be dragging this team to contention. The issue is the team around him and not Young himself. With him on the floor, they become dramatically better - something approaching a mid-tier team. When he rests, they become the worst roster in the league. We've got a 45 game sample size that bears this out. 7
