I told you guys what I heard yesterday and last night. Cam was traded because they weren't going to bring him back. The pick we got is going to be used or at least attempted to be used in addition to other players and picks to try and get an impact player. Trae also has told Travis to go get Ben, he wants to play with Ben.

So out of curiosity I wanted to see where this topic ranks reply wise because it's been awhile since something has exploded like this on here. Albeit the trade stuff was merged with an older Reddish topic, I still can't believe that something involving Cam Reddish holds the record for the 4th most replied to topic in Homecourt Squawk history! We are still going strong too...

I don't think it's the stand alone pick. Ithink it's the pick combined with other 'stuff'.  Seems as if the 'other' team didn't want Reddish since they'll have to pay him and wouldn't want to particularly if they already have salary concerns.

On the trade, here are a couple of quick thoughts:

• Cam has elite upside.  Elite players make the difference in the NBA and losing out on a potential one is hard for me to accept when the return isn't particularly exciting.  Even though Cam hasn't realized that potential, the fact that he has it means he is a valuable lottery ticket to me.  Guys like that aren't seen all that often.  So I recognize the potential doesn't equal certainty and someone like Brandon Clarke has a much higher floor than Cam but the potential to end up evolving like Steve Nash or Chauncey Billups or Detlef Schrempf is something not to take lightly.
• Cam has not been productive career to date.  Cam has had a few stretches of plus play (finishing his rookie year and in the playoffs last season stand out) but has been dismal for most of his 122 games so the hurt for me isn't so much about what Cam is today and more about what he could become.   
• Cam's injury history hurt his development and trade value.  Nothing more to add but when  you miss this many games it hurts the return in a trade and keeps you from getting the reps and consistency you need to become your best self on the floor.

The tendency when a player is traded is to dump on him so I take reports about his issues with training or attitude that pre-date the trade more seriously than I do the pieces that come out right now.  And those earlier reports were mixed but not so negative that I was ready to give up on Cam.

So for me to feel better about the trade, I'd need to see one of the following happen:

1. We use the pick to get an impact player in another deal I'm really excited about.
2. We use the pick to draft a John Collins who is better than Cam turns out to be.
3. Cam develops into a role player but make exorbitant salary demands such that it becomes clear he isn't a star and wouldn't have been able to stay here as part of the rotation at that price.
4. Cam continues to produce like he has produced career to date in which case he turns out to have busted.

Some of these can happen more quickly than others but I'm rooting for the trade in 1 to be the key to turning this season around and setting us up for future success.

This I'll buy.  My biggest culprit here is Bogie. BB loses his man often forcing bad rotations and we all know Trae's challenges on defense.

Before we migrated the board there were some pretty ridiculously long threads.

This season is what it is.  There is no savior out there to make this work. Total waste of time thinking it would if you asked me.  I would love to get rid of Bogi and Gallo but it ain't happening.  Anyone else would most likely result in a lateral move or a downgrade which is what Schlenk's trades usually are.

Exactly that or more often than not losing his man and trailing on the initial screen.  He's really late to react on the crossover, screen and it puts things in motion. He gets caught reaching a lot.

I only see Knox as Salary filler to make this trade work.  

I also see him as salary filler in a follow up trade.

I don't need anyone trying to convince me he will be part of the rotation.  If he is, he is, if he isn't, he isn't.
