Play AJ.

Without Bogi its going to be difficult since we are playing these close games.  If we play the starters any less in our wins we very possibly could have lost.  Our depth just isn't what it was last year.  I'm starting to come around on Crowder, I just dont want to give up JJ or AJ to do it.  Offer JH/AH + 2nds, if they need a prospect throw in Vit.

He gets a long leash with me.  As long as he is shooting at a high percentage, top 5 in assists, and oh yeah leading the league in assist/turnover ratio.

Am I being too much of a homer to think that some of the stuff he's criticized over actually allows him to get the results he does?  If he never shoots early in the clock his defender is able to better anticipate and predict what he's doing.  Establishing a threat to shoot early in the clock or long threes keeps the defense off balance.  It's like running a reverse in football, change direction, and force the defense to cover more options.

As far as Trae being a generational talent.  It could be as a 4 level scorer plus league's best playmaker.  He is already on a very short list of 50+ 30/10 games after only 4 seasons.  He's passing Magic this year on that list this year.

I'm worried (not really worried) about this considering that the games he has had 10+ assists, he hasn't been scoring as much, and the games he scored a lot, his assists drop below double digits.

Playing next to Murray will likely reduce his opportunities for 30 and 10 games because Murray will rack up a ton of assists for himself.

Not that it matters as long as we are winning.

Comparing stats between players of different eras is a pointless and completely flawed exercise.

Yeh, but it still could be transformational to be the league's best scorer and passer consistently.  Who else has even been that guy?

THE ATLANTA HAWKS don't have a point guard.

It seems like a jarring statement, especially for a team that features Trae Young, who led the NBA in total assists a season ago. This summer the Hawks added Dejounte Murray, who finished fourth in the league in assists per game while playing for the San Antonio Spurs last season.

Two All-Star point guards sharing a backcourt -- but neither one a point guard.

That's how Nate McMillan sees it.

"Those guys I'm calling 'the guards' this year," the Hawks coach said prior to a preseason game in Birmingham, Alabama, last month. "Both guys will be handling the ball and initiating offense.

"We're doing a little different things than what we've done in the past."

In the past, Young has been the unquestioned leader of Atlanta's offense. He's averaged 27.8 points and 9.5 assists per game over the past three seasons, leading the Hawks to a surprising run to the Eastern Conference finals in 2021. But after last season's disappointing first-round exit, Atlanta brought in Murray to help share the load -- and prove the Hawks were serious about being a contender in a stacked Eastern Conference.

The challenge now for McMillan is to figure out how to take two ball-dominant guards and get them to mesh in time to have the same kind of postseason success Young had on his own two years ago.

Or, as Young tweeted when news of the trade broke: "This just got real."

Dejounte Murray Looks Like The Running Mate Trae Young Needed

Good read!

That's a really good article.  And this is it right here...

That right there is supposed to be a problem night in and night out for the defense.  Trae open on the weak side is basically a layup.  And look at how the defense is stretched.  Look at all the options we have.  Ball movement and spacing man...

Dejounte Murray DPOY?

Quote

Murray’s impact as one of the league’s premier two-way threats is being felt in the early going: The Hawks’ net rating inflates by a team-high 32.4 points with Murray on the court compared to when he sits, including a 21.3-point swing on defense, per NBA.com.

Can we stop with the 'they don't fit' narrative? They don't need to be perfect, just play off each other's strengths.

Atlanta has been pretty good with Young and Murray on the floor together, outscoring opponents by 3.8 points per 100 possessions, according to data from pbpstats.com. The Hawks have been bad when Murray plays without Young (minus-6.58 net rating) and slightly worse when Young plays without Murray (minus-6.62).
