What’s sad is, they will sign him to that contract and then he will force his way to us as soon as he is eligible.

And because Boston wont actually want to pay that kind of money, they will be more willing to move him at that point lol

So yeah. We will likely be dealing with that $70mil at one day lol

70 million is insane and it handcuffs the Celtics

They will want to move him before the latter years kick in. And guess who will be at the top of his preferred destinations list?

Home sweet home lol

It’s not, actually.  The first year salary is more burdensome with regard to cap space.  The cap will go up 10% per year which will out scale his 8% increases per year.  Looks crazy now because we’re not comparing to other 2029 salaries or the 2029 cap

$70 Million Dollars....

Now that everyone has sticker shock, let's look at the NBA reality.

The salary cap over the next 5 years with a projected 10% increase over the next 5 years with the associated 25%, 30% and 35% max deals looks like this:

2024-25: $149.6 = $37.4, $44.88, $52.36

2025-26: $164.5 = $41.1, $49.3, $57.5

2026-27: $181 = $45.2, $54.3, $63.3

2027-28: $200 = $50, $60, $70

2028-29 : $220 = $55, $66, $77

So if Trae exercises his ETO, he can get a new deal starting at either $60 or $70 million in year 1 of a new deal in 2027-28.

Now that seems that JB pipe dream is gone and KAT and Siakam look really far, I wonder if we could just try to sign some FAs to complete the team.

Kelly Oubre might be a good addition to our F position. He can be signed by the minimum deal unless someone gives him MLE which is unlikely at this point if you ask me. Can play SF and PF and would add shooting to our team.

Dedmon might be a good option as well, capable defender, stretch 5, is a good fit for our team for limited role that can offer you quality minutes vs big centers.

But you're against KAT's salary, but can rationalize this foolishness?

TV gif. Kel Mitchell as Ed in Good Burger dressed for work. He looks to the side with attitude and leans back, wide eyes repeatedly blinking with great speed.

Against both… don’t think I’ve ever supported trading for JB AFTER he signs a supermax deal…

Kelly whOubre being a good player has always been a myth.

I suggest you deep dive into things. AJ had a top tier rookie season on Per 36.

Also, note his 2p%, FT %, AJ's turnover rate for a ROOKIE.

For example, please review these players...

These are very comforting numbers.  I know that people want to boil this down to "will he/won't he", but player development is an inexact science.  You have to look at a players numbers along with how they play and when they score.  I have no idea if AJ is going to be the next great star.  Nobody knows these things.  He looks as promising as a rookie can and as far as 3pt shooting...he's an eye opener.

That said, AJ is not a player that I would just "include" in any deal.  I would trade AJ only in a package for a player with many years ahead of him, that we hope AJ's impact would mirror and preferably after a coach like Quin has had a good look at him.

I think most people don't want to do the leg work to compare his rookie season to others in the past. If they did they would be surprised how well he did considering he got thrown to the fire as a 19 year old.

The following might open a lot of eyes here on the board. I took out ORB and DRB breakdown to make the columns fit.

Jaylen Brown:

Season Age Tm Lg Pos G GS MP FG FGA FG% 3P 3PA 3P% 2P 2PA 2P% FT FTA FT% TRB AST STL BLK TOV PF PTS

AJ:

2022-23 19 ATL NBA SF 72 12 1401 6.4 13.7 .465 2.6 6.7 .390 3.8 7.0 .536 1.1 1.2 .894 3.9 1.9 1.1 0.3 1.1 2.2 16.4
