TANKWATCH GAME OF THE NIGHT:

Orlando at Utah: The West is earning its Wild, Wild descriptor. The Jazz are on the outside looking in if the season ends today. They are also just 4.0 games behind 3-seed Portland! The Magic are also looking for their third straight win, but have just one just one win on the road (if you can Miami "the road") in their past six games. Aaron Gordon and Nik Vucevic are back up to speed, while the bare-bones bench is getting better contributions out of Jonathan Issac and Mario Hezonja.

Honorable Mention goes to Phoenix at Miami. Hard to get anybody's hopes up that the Suns can pull out a W on the back end of a road back-to-back. But at least if the heat win, the Hawks' Tragic Number goes down another digit! Phoenix wouldn't mind another lottery pick, and they have a chance to nudge Miami just a little closer to 9-seed Detroit tonight!

EDIT: hey, this might help! Help your bruthas out, Luke!

TANKWATCH GAME OF THE NIGHT:

Denver at Dallas: Do you really want to be back on TANKWATCH, Denver? I think not! So you'll really want to step it up against the Mavs in Dallas tonight. What has been shaping up as a nice season could be undone by your Tank-quality 11-19 record away from Pepsi Center. But, at least, you do have Pawl back to help save the season. And, oh, look, Rick Carlisle's even helping you out, although I'm not convinced that sitting Wesley Matthews, Jr. is definitively helping matters in your favor these days.

Heal up for that TankWar, Wes! Your city needs you. more than ever.

Less compelling from a TANKWATCH perspective will be Philadelphia at Charlotte. The Sixers want to put both Charlotte and Detroit firmly in the rear-view mirror on the drive to their first postseason since the days when Elton Brand and Spencer Hawes starting was a thing. Meanwhile, the Hornets want to... oh, who are we kidding? The Hornets have no earthly idea what they want to do!

Add to the possibly-addition-by-subtraction Tankers' injury list:

and, meanwhile... #SHAMWOW!

So, the new "TankRest" is going to be called, "Personal Reasons." Let the Knicks show you how it's done: "Hey, Courtney, did you forget to leave out food for your cat?"

TANKWATCH Alert: The Mavs are up double digits on Denver, at home, with under 4 minutes to go! They can't possibly blow this, can they? Can? They?

They! Can't! Ring the Tank Bell for Dallas! "North Dallas 4-seed!"

TANKWATCH GAME OF THE NIGHT:

Memphis at Chicago: Bulls and Bears! The market is stronger than ever for the Bulls to put another win under their belt, atoning for an atrocious showing at home against the Celtics. Zach LaVine cannot possibly play any worse than he did on Monday. And, wanna bet Robin Lopez and Justin Holiday will be pressed into action? They're just here so the Bulls won't get fined. The Grizzlies may trip them up, though, and end their 14-game skid after nearly pulling off the upset in San Antonio. Their sole motivation for winning at this point seems to be to stop Professor Gasol's incessant lecturing about effort and playing to win NBA games, "development" be damned (to the G-League).

If you think about the value of draft picks, it is hard to picture a fine that teams shouldn't be willing to pay.  First, the Bulls only got a warning after sitting healthy players for 6 games.  Second, what if they get fined $200K?  Do you think the Bulls wouldn't trade the #8 pick and $500K for the #4 pick?

The Bulls are currently in the 8th slot for the lottery.  If they had lost 2 more games they would be #3.  That is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Thank goodness one of  these teams has to win.

We woke up this morning in a crazy 5-way tie for 3rd place - so depending on tie-breakers, etc. you could go from 3rd to 7th and a worst case scenario of 6 to 10.  Insane.  Every game counts.

TANKWATCH GAME OF THE NIGHT:

Brooklyn at Charlotte: Nets and Ho'Nets! Despite the Borough Boys' free-fall, Caris LeVert has played well in spurts, while D'Angelo Russell is rounding back into form, and DeMarre Carroll has taken charge by averaging over 20 PPG so far this month. And Brooklyn doesn't want the LeBronnaires to get a Top-3 pick as much as anybody else. But they've gotta find somebody tonight (Jarrett Allen?) to rein in Dwight Howard (coming off 30 points and 3 blocks against Embiid and the Sixers), who is playing to salvage his head coach's job before the new GM gets to town. "Free Malik Monk!"

TANKWATCH GAME OF THE NIGHT:

Utah at Memphis: As much fun as I've had at Marc Gasol's expense this season, his Grizzlies have been Competitanking quite well lately. They had a stretch of five games in eight nights -- all losses -- but none by double-digit deficits. Utah has been impressive this month, including their crop-dusting of the Pacers in Indy on Wednesday. But tonight's game is, similarly, the Jazz's fifth game in eight nights. In front of a home crowd, can the Grizzlies simultaneously interrupt their own 15-game slide while momentarily stopping Utah's four-game surge? As Hawks fans know all too well, backsliding 7-seed Minnesota continues its rough schedule over the next week (vs GSW, @ WAS, @ SAS, vs HOU), so the time for Utah to strike is now!

EDIT: Can't forget the nightcap to today's Creature Double Feature... Orlando at Sacramento! Both teams are doing their best to have fewer available players than fans at the game.
