3 years is a reasonable rebuild and it's reasonable to expect a winning team next season. At the very least a playoff team that is a few games under .500.

I GIVE UP!  I now don't believe that the Atlanta Hawks will win the NBA championship this season.

Furthermore, I don't expect them to win the east this season.  Drat!  Just too many teams ahead of us that we would have to pass.  In fact, I have lost hope of a .500 season and the playoffs.

Do I have any hopes for the future of the Atlanta Hawks?  You bet I do!  Hawks are talking about having a much better bench next season.  Three huge, expiring contracts will no longer be Hawks.  These will be traded before the deadline, bought out, or simply let walk at season's end.

This $$$ payroll will be replaced with players who will actually be available to play.  This is no time to panic and jump off the plan.  That will get you to the playoffs, a first round exit and be right back to where we were before the teardown.  I don't want this.  I want the possibility of a championship roster.

25 game suspension + injuries have jumped this train right off the tracks this season.  I always expect everything to improve, day to day, week to week and season to season.  Being raised on a farm, I know that you don't sew seed and at once have a harvest.   Hawks, I don't expect to be great at once.  That would be great.  Patience, grasshopper.  We will yet prosper if we work hard and do not give up everything that we have gained so far.

So I wonder what was the difference between last night and Wednesday night, when he played 33 minutes pretty easily vs Houston?

 

Collins' minutes by quarter

1st - 8:35

2nd - 3:19

3rd - 8:05

4th - 7:59

 

Surely playing him 16 minutes in the 2nd half didn't get John "exhausted".

Could it be the fact that coach was playing him at center, and forcing John to battle more on the inside for rebounds and to contest shots?

And he only played 2:04 of the final 6 minutes of the game.

But yet, this coach knows how to manage lineups and rotations . . .

With the team as currently constructed, at this point I'm not so much concerned with our win/loss record (and yes I want us to win) unless we are making some kind of upgrade trade to fix our glaring deficiencies.

I'm more concerned about how we play. Are we competing or is the game over in the 1st quarter?
Are the rookies improving and showing some level of consistency each month as the season progresses? Are we communicating on defense, giving effort, playing hard, are we focused (particularly at the freethrow line), battling for the 50/50 balls  - you know, things that each individual player can control for themselves. 

Trae - defense and running the team particulary when his shot his off. He has to find other wsys to impact the game when he's not shooting well.

Huerter - keep battling on defense and be agressive on offense. Since the LP 'incident' he has been so much better 

Collins - can LP run some actual plays for him? He can do so much more on offense. He has improved his defense at the rim, needs to still work on team and individual defense in half court sets. 

Hunter - needs more consistency on offense, he can dissapear easily. I don't like his rebounding effort, he should be better. 

Reddish - no complaints on his defense. His offense - needs a ton of work. When he's confident he plays likeca different player. I'm gonna really need him to get his eyes checked too.

Bruno - Prayers needed for him at this time, basketball is secondary. 

The rest - are who they are.

We are two games away from half the season's games being played, we currently sit at 8-31. How do we end the 1st 41?

The Houston game he was coming off the tail bone injury, so he didn't play the previous game, so fresher legs. John also took a spill on his back and was slow to get up in this game (i think 3rd quarter) hence might be the limping after the game quote.

However, Playing Center, battling bigger opponents probably took a toll.

I'd prefer we didn't play small, I'd prefer to keep JC strictly at PF unless in spot minutes at C.....but Jones as the alternative is unacceptable.

I got about 5 guys I want to add to this team right now that would turn our bench to the best bench in the NBA and our starting lineup into a top 15 one instantly. All can be reasonably had.

I'll share the guys who we aren't chasing so these two are off the radar guys: 

Malik Monk and Willy Hernangomez

Why? Monk is shooting poorly this year but he's improved his defense by night and day, shoots threes at a high volume and is usually a 90% FT shooter. Him and Crabbe would be a decent shooting mix. When Cam moves back to the bench, Monk and Cam could be nice as well. Not sure if Charlotte is open to moving him. 

The other is Hernangomez. I honestly feel he could be a decent get but he doesn't fit Charlotte at all. Maybe he will be better here. He shot 4 threes a game this year in limited minutes per36. I feel we just need a better center to fake start till we get a real one. 

The deal I had in mind was Bembry/Jones for Malik/Wily

lol, I can't do this. The bottomline is we need shot makers, volume shooters, and hungry kids. Bembry is valued by the Hawks but I can't help but think we could use more shooting.

Yep.  I noticed that, at game's end, Collins had a hitch in his get along.  Also, he looked really spent.  I want @NBASupes to ad these new Hawks to the roster right now!

 Hawks are short handed right now.  Bruno is missing.  We have a two way player and a 10 game contract player on the roster.  Parker is out. Parsons doesn't play.  We need help.
