Spud2nique
Wow… Amazing stat.. Murray will often get it off the glass himself. He had the second-highestdefensive rebounding percentage (19.6%) among 198 players 6-foot-6 and shorter who averaged at least 10 minutes per game last season.

Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted October 31, 2022 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted October 31, 2022 Two things that are surprising me thus far with Murray in the early going: 1. He dribbles a lot, too much sometimes 2. He's not getting to the free-throw line like I thought he would: averaging 2 attempts per game (granted he took ZERO in the last 2 games)

They don’t necessarily both need to have Star nights all the time but it’s good to have one or the other. That’s what I’m looking for. 1

And he ain't Luka! The offense grinds to a halt when he is running point and the 2nd unit's scoring efficiency mainly depends on whether he is hitting shots or not. I hope this isn't his ceiling as a back up point guard. Otherwise we might be in a little trouble

I think this is an area where growing pains rears it's ugly head. Getting to know folks and how he fits. That's my hope. I look forward to the part where they figure out roles because that means the opposing team can't take a breather all game.

They? Who are you referring to when you say they. This is strictly a Murray issue when Trae is off the floor. The Guy has started going almost 100% iso on every possession with the 2nd unit and he is just a so so Iso player with questionable handles. Like I say, I hope this isn't his ceiling as a lead guard on offense.
Final_quest
I loved when people were saying they thought he was better than Trae. It's a good problem. Start giving us those thoughts again, DJM. 1
Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted November 3, 2022 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted November 3, 2022 Quote With seven games under their belt, the Hawks still are in search of that guy who can be that voice in the huddle when things get tough. So far, two players have emerged in that role, and one of them may be someone new to the team. Hawks coach Nate McMillan would not name names when asked who those players are. But Dejounte Murray has been vocal about his willingness to hold his teammates accountable until everyone is on the same page. Following Monday night’s 139-109 loss to the Raptors, Murray said that he’s not one to shy away from addressing it. He spoke up in the locker room following the game. In addition to that, he’ll be the first to listen to the criticism that the coaches provide. “I’m always taking it on the chin, taking accountability, because that will just make, you know, my teammates understand that they will hold me accountable, and that’s really what it is,” Murray said following the game. “It’s a long season, and you never get too high, you never get too low and you stick together no matter what.” Murray’s teammates have noticed that he’s willing to take as much as he can dish, and that’s the sort of leadership that has gained the 26-year-old guard respect in the locker room. More than anything, with a couple of vocal leaders emerging among the team, the Hawks look to continue to solidify their defensive identity. Quote So far, Murray has played as advertised on defense. He currently ranks tied for ninth in the league in steals per game, averaging two takeaways per contest. He averages roughly four deflections per game, and when his defense doesn’t show up on the stat sheet, he still has made a noticeable impact. Now, the Hawks want that effort on defense to trickle down to the rest of the roster on a consistent basis. As the team continues to play together, the Hawks expect their chemistry on both ends of the floor to solidify. 4

Popular Post kg01
So it's still early so .... ah, eff it. If you're lookin' for some wishy-washy, bet-hedgin' posts this one ain't for you. Who in the actual F thought this addition wasn't gonna work? All the eggsperts kept saying, "Bwah trae's not gonna pass the ball. He an' Murray are gonna fight over the ball and blah, blah, bluh..." The team is still working through it but the early returns make the eggsperts look like the biased, ill-informed, slacked jawed yokels we all know they are. Really happy with what I've seen. And know it's only gonna get better from here. I.S.E. 2
Premium Member Popular Post Sothron Posted November 7, 2022 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted November 7, 2022 He is so fun to watch. A true two way star player we haven't had since Joe Johnson was here. He definitely brings energy, defense and excitement to the team. He's going to be remembered I hope as one of the best trades in Hawks franchise history. 5
ATLHawks3
Honestly, I want to Murray to take more advantage of Clint and JC's Vertical Spacing in the PNR. I have yet to see him throw a lob pass as a Hawk this year.

You have to shoot nearly 60% on mid rangers to reach league average points per possession, just average. Yet we draw plays and encourage nothing but mid rangers. This does not even account for how unlikely it is to draw fouls shooting pull up mid range shots
