I don't think this is even an important deal for the team, we dealt a 10 min player for another one, contract wise both are even and none of them was going to have an impact on the team. If Bembry does well as a backup PG he will get all the minutes but I think he is seen as a defensive stopper. This deal has negligible effect on the team.

Anyone who expects this should be prepared to be let down.  He isn't a sieve like he was earlier in his career but if you expect better than adequate defense you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Agreed.  Because Turner will be earning just under $19M and is used to playing >20 mpg, I am skeptical that this doesn't cut into development opportunities for both Bembry and Reddish.  Turner will not be on the roster for the 2020-21 season.  Reddish will.  Bembry might.

I think Hunter may surprise some people due to Virginia's system suppressing scoring numbers.

Hunter will take some time to adjust to our pace and tempo. That was always my big issue for him. I seen Mikal have this issue with PHX and NOVA played at a much faster pace than UVA did. Hunter will still impact at a high level. That's what he is.

This is true. Turner defensive value is based off his off the ball skills. On the ball defense, he is not impressive at all.

I disagree based on skill-set more than anything else. Hunter is more NBA ready but Cam is ready to start right now at SF.

I don't think Cam is close to be ready to start  yet.  He needs to get stronger and in better condition 1st.  There are also a lot of flaws in his game that needs to be worked out.  Some people act like last year didn't happen.

I was talking about Bembry, I think CP sees him as a wing defensive specialist and I think minutes as backup PG will be rare, still think that if he does well he will play more than Turner

I'm holding to the thought that because Turner is slightly cheaper, he gives us room in moving to acquire another salary and has specific value based on height that Baze no longer has based on his second half last year. He is seen as damaged goods by many in the league.

Bembry is an impact defender and a liability on offense.  Turner is a liability on offense and a non-impact defender.

I love Bembry and feel he does not get his respected due on this board. Sure he is not an offensive machine but he brings so much more to the court in defense and high energy. The guy is flat out a keeper off the bench.

And laugh my ass off at you guys flipping over Baze being traded. He was terrible last year and I suspect most of you are letting your heart cloud your judgement on this.

We traded one bum for another bum at worst..

Im convinced people will complain about anything. Literally debating about 2 guys that have ZERO impact on this teams future. Our young guys development next year is the only thing that matters, not which mediocre vet will be our 9th man next season.

Talk to me when we trade for a player whose contract doesnt come off the books next year.

Save half a million on a guy who the coach doesn't want getting too many minutes anyway. Thats what we had with Baze without the tad bit of cash and both are good locker room cats. Neither carry all that much weight on the floor wins and losses wise.

I’m still trying to understand this trade.

Baz was so important for these young kids.  We don’t have that vet leadership anymore

I posted an article that called him just as critical as Dame in terms of the locker room in Portland.

If losing Baze is that big of a locker room deal just bring back Vince in any role. He is very respected and comparing that respect is foolish considering we are talking about Baze and Turner.

They dont want to hear that, too heartbroken over their dude Baze.

Turner is trash on the floor but a good guy by all accounts.  I've already said that.  I'm not trashing him personally.  Just his broken, broken shot and marginal man defense.

One of those moves benefits Reddish. Atlanta traded Kent Bazemore to Portland for Evan Turner in a pure player-for-player trade. Frankly, Turner is not as good as Bazemore and the tangible on-court benefit for the Hawks just isn’t there on paper. But moving Bazemore frees up one more spot on the wing for the Hawks and allows Reddish to get as many minutes as he’s ready for immediately. The reason for the trade was for roster balance and to prioritize minutes for Reddish, Hunter and Huerter. Atlanta sees Turner filling in as the team’s primary back-up point guard.
