Anyone remember when Al Horford was a FA? Hawks offered 5yrs/$136 million, $6 million shy of a max - he still met with other teams as was his right. Guys are allowed to meet with as many teams as they want.

Most of the time players end up with more money when they do this.  Horford had an offer from the Hawks at $27.2M per year and signed with the Celtics for $28.25M per year.  Some like Bonzi Wells have a $38.5M offer from the Kings and then end up signing for $2M with another team because the market dries up.  Both teams and players take on risk when teams don't put everything they can in an offer and when a player decides to pass on an offer in hand and the player goes to talk to other teams.  Normal part of the process.  Here, the restricted part of JC's free agent status is a big factor that limits his leverage and upside.

I always hear people give this argument every offseason. But normal people make the decision all the time to take less money to be closer to home to have more time home or because they like their current situation. Fighting for every penny is not what all people would do.

Oh and I don’t think JC would be getting less money if he accepted the deal on the table because I don’t think anymore money is out there for him.

We are taling about millions of dollars here. You might be willing to immediately accept anoffer that is millions of dollars less than what you want, but looking for the offer he wants doesn't make JC bad.

Next off season will be interesting.  The Hawks will have three big contracts which they can potentially move off of as Kevin Heurter is coming due.  Gallo, Boggy, and Clint are guys who could be moved after the up coming season, though Gallo could still get moved this year.

It is also reported the fifth year in the deal is a player option.

Which may have been the tipping point issue all along.

Who knows.

Maybe we will soon enough.
