I see this alot... guy has a reputation as a defender and no matter how much that changes people still see them as such, the opposite is also true.

I don't think Thybulle is a great defender, his best defense is letting his guy blow by him then swiping at the ball from behind - great tactic and it works for steals, blocks and deflections which can be invaluable, but if the offensive players plays him for that he is ineffective.

Would need to be an offseason trade with Capela since he cannot be traded this season.

Last rumors were Hawks offered Gallo, Reddish, 1st? ...Morey asked for the kitchen sink with all the plumbing pipes and copper...Hawks said NO

That seems like a strange fit, plus he's on a max deal. Morey will want the farm for him as well.

It's a strange, but intriguing fit. Ben would have to be willing to actually play like a four with Trae and guard centers.  Not sure that will work out well, but his defense is the one thing about him that's not overrated.  With Trae's ability to make a great offense on his lonesome, it is a trade I'd consider.  Not sure what they would have to give up for him though.  Def one of the young wings and a couple of first round picks.

At least half of these are decision making or maybe i should have said mental improvements.   Mid range shooting is his main skill weakness but i don't think it's that bad.

His ability to get to his midrange is very good, but his effectiveness on them is abysmal right now.

I'm not advocating we get rid of him at all (I really don't see anyone advocating we get rid of him for anything less than a perennial all-star type player), just playing devils advocate to some of the strong attachment people have to his potential.  I have always loved Cam as a prospect and I still do, but I think that's exactly what he still is -- a high ceiling prospect.  He's not PG or even on the same track as PG.  I feel like people here are not remembering how good PG was in his third year.  He was a first team defense player, an all-star, and an All-NBA player.  He eliminated our Hawks in the first round and led the Pacers in points, rebounds, assists, and steals.  Cam isn't even a clear starter right now.

Obviously the circumstances are much different for Cam and as @JayBirdHawk has mentioned multiple times in this thread and prior ones, Cam is really like 1/3 the way into his second season in terms of games played.  He also was injured his first summer and had injury setbacks on another summer worth of development, not to mention the Covid gap where everything went wonky.  He hasn't had the development time you would normally get by your 3rd year and he was a 1 and done unlike Hunter who developed a lot of his game in college.  It's still way too early to make judgement on what Cam will become, but we would be VERY lucky if he ends up on the same level as PG.  He has A LOT of work and development before he reaches that level.  Reading the comments around here it feels like a lot of people think he's a lot closer to PG than he actually is.

You got a bad memory Spud lol. We've talked about this in PMs on here before. I've had sources in the Hawks going back to when Jason Walker was covering the team on realgm. That is now down to one source. I stopped posting insider rumors on here several years back because I was getting death threats with pictures of my house and my address against me and Mrs. Sothron. I left the site for years. Dolfan convinced me to come back. I rarely post any insider rumors now because @NBASupes and @thecampster have their own sources and what they report is generally just a different wording from what my source tells me. There's stuff my source will sometimes tell me in no uncertain terms not to repeat.

To answer your question, yes, we're checking in on Ben as part of Travis's due diligence. I don't expect Ben coming here because Morey is still hoping to get Dame or something like that. We don't have someone like that to trade them.

Travis is calling everyone. That includes the Sixers. Ben would absolutely help us on defense, rebounding and having a secondary playmaker with Trae. Imagine Trae coming off screens with Ben giving him passes. That's the upside. The downside is Ben can't shoot at all and he can't make free throws. I would never want Ben but he fills a lot of holes on our team.

I don't see him coming here. From everything my guy told me Morey is still wanting Dame or someone on that tier. For us to trade for Ben that means Philly takes lesser talent and the hopes that Cam will become a star for them. I'm not saying it is impossible but it requires Morey to accept in his eyes a much lower return for Simmons than what he's been asking for.

It's crazy how people sleep on JC. You know what JC is shooting from three this year? .427. Yes he's not a dominant one on one scorer, but he's an absurdly efficient offensive player.

The only way I want them to trade JC is for a bonafide superstar. KAT is that. Ben Simmons is most definitely not that. It would take a superstar to get me to come off JC. After Trae he is my most favorite Hawk and the one I feel the most valuable to our team.

I don't know many who think Cam is PG right now, but you have to put on your scouting goggles with Cam and kind of be less results oriented.  What I look at is what is he able to do and not as much as what is he able to do successfully right now.  I generally wait until 5 of 6 years in before I say this is what a player is because many players make a jump in years 4, 5, and 6 as far as efficiency.  

Cam is able to do a lot offensively and defensively.  He needs time to put it all together and like many have said, his actual games played is really low for a third year player. That's why I'm not as critical of him as some.  His ceiling maybe better than PG, but his most likely outcome is a quality three and D wing who at times can go nuclear for you.

I talked about this like 2 years ago when explaining why you'll hear us say "I've been sitting on this rumor for 2 weeks".  That right there tells me you're legit.

Rumor types:

1. You're told directly X,Y,Z is happening with no preconditions. Meaning you are free to tell anyone you want, just don't reveal the source.  Usually this is to apply pressure to the sides finalizing pieces to not back out. But can also be because it is going to happen but the teams can't comment on it yet. So it gets leaked to drum up media/marketing buzz. Facts, trading for a player ups ticket sales, television viewership.

2. You're told directly X,Y,Z might be happening, you are okay to talk about it but realize this isn't a done deal.  Meaning, they are trying to gauge fanbase support. If it creates buzz on the internet, the team who leaked might be more likely to act.

3. You're told X,Y,Z might go down, but do not talk about it. I'm serious, I'll cut you off if I see this on any of your socials."  Source has something hot but revealing it could quash the deal, get agents involved, cause problems, get competing teams involved, upset the fanbase, upset the player who you might get stuck with if it falls apart.  Typically this means the deal is tenuous and the negotiations are stiff...Team B is having to be convinced by your team its in their best interest to act now.  The last thing you want is a competing offer or a pissed off fanbase.

 

Option 3 is what gets you cut off from gossip.  So I talked about this before but one of my older sources talked about a marketing guy who was tasked to come up with marketing materials for a major sports franchise. One deal fell through and he had been the one leaking stories himself to reporters.  He lost his job. When its not a done deal and its a risky trade...usually stars on both sides involved, it gets hushed.
