Dunn might be the easiest to incorporate since he has such a defined role.  If Bogi is still starting, Cam and Dunn will be splitting back up minutes.  I feel like the team (and Dunn) would rather push Dunn toward playing significant minutes toward the end of the season and playoffs and just save Cam until next year. This will give us a chance to get something out of Dunn and Dunn another opportunity earn another payday.

It's not Dunn's role that's the concern. The best ability is availability. If you cant play, you cant get into a rhythm. We need guys that we can rely on, that are ready to go to war when that ball is tipped up. Having bad knees at age 27 is a major bummer, I'm sure he's trying to get back. But it's looking more and more bleak.

Im telling you. Just scratch him from the season already. It's April for crying out loud.

The Hawks will have 2 days off after their game Thursday. If Dunn doesn't practice during that time, and he isnt a go for Sunday I think he won't ever be ready this season.

Only a month left in the season. If not now, then when? He hasn't played in over a year.

Hunter I think has a legit chance to come back and contribute. Reddish and Dunn, I'm less bullish on.

And that's fine with me at this point.   But i want Snell and JC back too.   If we have everyone but Cam and Dunn then we have everyone we need at this point.

For anyone who wants to take a stab at it...

I know there's a specific application, of course, but zooming out and in general, how many games should we presume it typically would take any given player to assimilate as well as he's going to get assimilated with his teammates? There are going to be outliers, of course, but just on-average what number would you say?

If he's never played with the teammates before and has at least a few years in the league i'd say 15-20.

I think there is a lot of variation here and it depends on how mature the guy's game is and how limited his role is.  For an extreme example, think of how long it took Lou Williams to fit in and positively contribute.  5 minutes?  Did it take that long?  He is a veteran player brought in to make some shots and not do much else.  Ideal for an easy fit.

If you are looking at Dunn as a defensive specialist, that could be an easy role to fill for him in limited minutes.  If you are looking at him as the backup point guard and having him run the offense, then I think that is much more problematic.  You can probably drop a guy like Chris Paul off the bus in street clothes and be fine but Dunn doesn't have that track record or his natural gifts and I would assume it would take him longer to find his role as an offensive facilitator.  Of course, if he has been using his time wisely and studying film and prepping all season then maybe he can be ready to go pretty quickly with a short list of action to run.  He is clearly the biggest risk as far as someone who comes in and doesn't find his role in the limited runway we have left but I do think the more limited his scope of responsibility, the more likely he can succeed (assuming he is healthy enough to play).

Cam and Hunter have played with everyone on the roster and have a good amount of minutes on the floor with Trae, JC, Huerter and each other.  Hopefully they have also been working with the assistant coaches to understand what will be expected from them under Nate when they return.  That should make the potential for their successful transition much higher than it would be if they had been traded here.

15-20 games is probably a fine 'finger in the wind' kind of generic number but I'd just say this is one aspect of the game where it is probably less useful to look to a generic rule of thumb and that you have to get into the weeds a bit to really make that decision.

Here is what Im looking at.

April 5th, Hunter had a non surgical procedure, said they would unload his legs for three days, and he would return to activity later that week, which would have been the 9th.

Today they said they just started to reload his legs for the first time yesterday, the 12th. Okay. 3 days later than they had initially planned. And what does re-load mean?

They also said on the 6th, Dunn was scrimmaging full court and they just wanted to get him a few more scrimmages to see how he felt. Guess he didn't feel good.

Also on the 6th, Nate said that Collins was "further out" than Dre in terms of returning. Implying Dre would be back sooner than John, who has another update due on the 15th, Thursday.

As of today, all are showing little to no signs of return this week. Dre was supposed to be ahead of JC to return, which sucks because JC will likely get an update Thursday that says he can just do 3-on-3 for a week or so.

Dre is reloading, but does that mean he is moving on the court, shooting, or is he a ways from that too.

Dunn went from scrimmaging to M.I.A

No Dunn update?

I think the fact that he wasn’t mentioned is telling enough for me at this point.  I’ve given up any expectations at this point and would be really surprised if he makes it back this season.

The only that gives a little hope is that he is active on the sidelines, giving guys high fives and cheering on the team. But it seems like every time he practices, his knee acts up again. I think his career could be jeopardy quite frankly. He might want to consider microfracture surgery as a last resort.

On a good note, Atlanta is not desperate for the injured players to return.  If the team was losing every game, waiting for them, we would all be going bonkers.
