Official Game Thread: Nets "at" Hawks

One step at a time.  Apparently, from what we hear, Quin has a complicated offensive and defensive system that he teaches.

If this is true, we begin to understand why he says, "Learn the offense, then the defense."

Some time, before this season is over, I expect to see Quin's defense begin to show it's self.  I still wonder who is calling the defense on the floor.  Is it the center?  Capela was, I believe, at one time.  Does 0017 do it when he's the center?

Dang, Trae.  Missed that free throw that forced overtime.  When you missed that one, if we lost, it would have been 100% on you.  Happy that you regained your touch in overtime.  Then, just to make it interesting, you missed another late free throw.

Despite our usual horrible defense Hawks do have busy hands and make some nice steals, stops in the passing lanes.  Ever little bit helps!  Hunter, who has been a major point of discussion here on the Squawk, had a nice game.

Big foot stepped out of bounds again!  Otherwise had a great game.

In that other game. CP just couldn't keep his mouth shut.  Refused to shut up.  He paid the price.  Expelled!

WISHING EVERYONE HERE ON THE SQUAWK A BLESSED AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Just curious what are you getting from his pressers?….is it that his defense requires a historic defensive figure like Gobert just to work?

is he trying to utilize Capela and OO like Gobert and realizing he’s at just not working ??

Guess what folks, if you don't have good defensive players are undersized at key positions it doesn't matter if you have the best defensive coach in the history of the game, you will suck at defense. Snyder can't go out there rebound the ball and contest shots of guys with a foot advantage in wingspan. Roster constructions is clearly flawed

I hope we arent always going to be mid. I like Quinn our front office and our roster so not sure why we cant be better on a consistent basis I think we gave the peices in place to be a 50 win team.

Nah, go watch other teams. This isn't 2021 both conferences are stacked with players that can go out there and hang 30 whenever they decide to. Giannis who is every bit as good as he was when he was winning MVPs is no where near the MVP conversation. Brooklyn is a play in team, they have a loaded roster that is arguably on our level. If this team doesn't make moves we will be fighting for a play in spot this year, no doubt about it at this point. Team has been completely healthy and playing hard every single night, we aren't gonna magically transform into a good defensive team which is what we are absolutely going to have to be to win more games than we lose in 2023.

Quin definitely has him bought in more on defense.  Im actually hopeful our defense will improve a decent bit over the course of the season.  That scheme looks really difficult to execute… Quin has them moving all at once to double, hedge, and cover shooters/rollers.  It’s possible things never click for some guys but its going to take time regardless.  Whole team needs to be moving as one across the court like an amoeba for it to work.  Paying attention to what each of your teammates are doing while also watching your man gotta be taxing mentally

Minny has arguably two of the best defenders at their position in their starting lineup.

Arguably, naw, it's a fact that McDaniels and Gobert are the best defensive players at their position. They are the two best defensive players in the NBA.

I'll say it again.  When you are undersized, you can't be soft too.  You have to be able to be willing to take some bumps and bruises and put bodies on people.

The offensive rebounds we give up are just ridiculous sometimes.  And the lack of contact we put on people indicates that we're a soft team as well.

Miami is undersized, but they're going to make you feel them every game.  Miami is actually undersized and not that damn talented at some positions.  But their toughness makes up for some of their height disadvantages.

As much flack as Trae gets for being small, he's easily the toughest guy on the team.  If we had a few players on defense who exhibited Trae's toughness on offense, we'd be straight.

If I were to list the top 5 toughest players all around, it'll be . .

  • Trae
  • Wesley Matthews
  • Bruno
  • Capela
  • Bey

Gotta be willing to take those hits, or dish them out.
